Some of the countries on the legendary Silk Road route are already represented by Tripatini groups, but not all, and there's no group yet covering this entire amazing route across Central Asia from China to the Mediterranean. So here's one...
Kazakhstan, the rough diamond
Straddling two time zones and four climate zones, Central Asia's largest country is one of startling contrasts. I think the Silk Road map as well as the list of countries on top of the page lacks some major "player" countries of the time - Armenia and Georgia in particular. If you need more info, please do not hesitate to let me know. Cheers
Can anyone help a fellow Tripatini member with a question about driving through Kazakhstan? If so, please respond not on this wall but at this link to our Ask A Travel Pro forum.

I spent time in Tajikistan this summer and highly recommend the you visit there. We stayed in homes, camping out in the family room and enjoyed the company and food of the locals. There is very little tourism and people benefit directly from your visit. I'd hurry back in an instant. You may wish to look into small hotels and home stays operated by the Aga Khan foundation.
I work in the travel industry and also recommend a couple of Silk Road tours that we operate:

and

We have others too. I think an ideal trip is a mixture of independent travel together with a few small group adventures thrown in so that you can relax and let someone else do the planning once in a while.
Bon Voyage!
