Being the capital of Catholicism, Rome has a bustling sacred music scene. Tomorrow, the ninth edition of the Sacred Music Festival kicks off. The Autumn Festival brings together outstanding artists, first and foremost, the Festival’s Orchestra-in-Residence, the Vienna Philharmonic, possibly the world’s most famous orchestra, that every January 1st holds the traditional valzer concert from the Musikverein in Vienna. They will perform on Monday 25th at 9 pm in St. Pauls Outside the Walls Basilica.
The opening event will be Saturday’s solemn mass in St. Peter’s with New York St. Patrick’s choir singing Gregorian music. On Sunday, S. Patrick’s Choir will play a dozen composers among which Mozart and Beethoven at the St. Ignazio di Loyola basilica at 5 pm. The last appointment of this festival will be on Tuesday the 26th with the North-Rhein Westphalia regional orchestra and Siegen’s Bach Chor in Santa Maria Maggiore basilica at 9 pm.
