    • February 2-7: The Serie del Caribe is the highest baseball tournament at the club level in Latin America, and gives you a chance to watch pro baseball outside of the U.S. Teams from Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Venezuela face off this year in Mayagüez.

    • February 4-6: The town of Dorado celebrates their annual Carnaval del Plata, or Silver Carnival, in typical 'Rican style (food, music, parades, and fun).

    • February 5-6: Ponce hosts the International Paso Fino Championship. If you've never seen these beautiful horses strut their stuff, and you love equestrian events, you'll enjoy this.

    • February 9-13: Think you're a daredevil? How would you stack up against these guys? Launching from Vega Baja, Xtreme Divers host a freefall festival just in time for Valentine's Day.

    • February 14: Valentine's Day is quite popular on the island. Check my blogs in February for special deals and dinner offers at hotels and restaurants. Or you can head to Aguadilla, on the west coast of Puerto Rico, for their Festival Día del Amor, or "Festival of the Day of Love."

    • February 19-22: The Ponce Carnival is Puerto Rico's answer to Mardi Gras, Rio'd Carnaval, and every other pre-Lent celebration. And if New Orleans has its beaded revelers and Rio its costumed dancers, Puerto Rico has its Vejigantes, elaborately masked figures representing local folkloric demons. For more information, call 787-841-8044 or 787-284-4141.

    • February 19-March 12: The internationally renowned Casals Festival has an impressive guest list this year, including the Tokyo String Quartet, cellists Kri Te Kanawa and Johannes Moser, and tenor Cesar Hernandez. Events will be held at the Luis A. Ferré Performing Arts Center in San Juan.

    • February 26: Ozzy, Rock 'n Roll's Prince of Darnkess, is coming to the Puerto Rico Coliseum, and if he doesn't eat a bat or bite the heads off chickens any more, he still promises a rocking good time.

    • February 25-27: The small town of Guaynabo has an interesting carnival that it has held since 1976 in honor of Mabó, a local Taíno Indian chieftain.

    • February 27: The World's Best 10K Race has become the largest family sports event in Puerto Rico, drawing more than 10,000 people a year. The race starts from the Teodoro Moscoso Bridge in San Juan and includes a variety of prizes including a raffle
