Allianz Travel Insurance survey reveals 90% of couples spend at least $2500
RICHMOND, Va., March 1, 2013 — While DIY projects remain one of the hottest trends to save money on weddings, couples are still making honeymoons a priority, spending nearly three times more on this trip than a typical vacation. According to a survey of travel agents by Allianz Travel Insurance, the agents say 67% of couples spend $2500-$5000 for their honeymoon while another 23% spend between $5,000 and $10,000. The survey, which sought agents’ predictions for 2013 trends in travel, also asked what strategies honeymooners use to reduce costs. Twenty-eight percent of agents reported that budget conscience honeymooners favor all inclusive vacations, while 22% said couples shorten a honeymoon’s duration as a way to save money.
Responding to the Allianz Travel Insurance 2013 Travel Trends Survey, 70 travel agents who offer Allianz Travel Insurance products gave their insight on honeymoon trends. With all the stress of wedding planning, travel agents say it’s no surprise that newlyweds opt for relaxation destinations, with the Caribbean, Hawaii and Mexico being most popular. Tahiti and Europe were also named as favorite honeymoon spots.
When asked about the most popular time to honeymoon, 71% of the bookings were between May and September, with June being the most popular month at 44%.
“Honeymoons have always been a significant investment for couples, both financially and emotionally,” said Alan Josephs, Chief Marketing Officer at Allianz Global Assistance USA. “This isn’t just any trip— it’s supposed to be a perfect trip. But,we all know that things can still happen, and newlyweds should consider the need for travel insurance and emergency assistance when far from home.”
