GALVESTON ISLAND, Texas (August 1, 2012) – Now just a block from their previous location, Santa Fe Trails has moved to join the shops at Old Galveston Square, 2217 Strand. The Native American and Southwestern jewelry and art shop relocated in order to accommodate repairs to the Ike damaged cast iron columns supporting the exterior of their previous location.
Visitors to historic downtown Galveston may notice the construction underway at 23rd and Strand, across from Saengerfest Park. In 2010, Mitchell Historic Properties (MHP) noticed fractures in the columns of their five iron-faced buildings, including Santa Fe Trails’ previous location in the Rosenberg building. It was discovered that the columns secretly hid flood water from Hurricane Ike’s devastation back in 2008. Since the discovery of the damage, MHP has been working to repair and restore the columns of the historic buildings to ensure the safety of their tenants and downtown visitors.
