Unlocking the Panama Canal´s Miraflores Locks

Two-stage Miraflores is perhaps the best known of the canal´s three locks, 1.8 kilometres (just over one mile) long and raising/lowering ships 16 metres (54 feet). There´s a visitor centre where people can watch the operation (which usually takes about a half hour).
