Palau more actively pushing high-end ecotourism
Skift recently came out with a piece about how Palau is trying to make itself a pristine ecotourism destination for the upscale travel market, for example with a recent law limiting foreigners in investing in luxury tourism projects with their own infrastructure but also providing tax breaks and exemptions. Although it's from three years ago, this interesting look at tourism in Palau from global business-news channel Quartz is still relevant today, in terms of how it balances the benefits (providing half of the country's GDP) with the pressures on the local environment from a volume of visitors (especially from China) that by far outnumbers Palau's own population.
