And of course let's not forget Hobbiton!

Hawke's Bay, North Island cited in '7 Gorgeous Glamping Destinations'

How beautiful to imagine yourself in a camp locates in a glorious camp surrounded by beautiful environs. Singing and romancing on cold nights sitting around the fireside, staring on the stars in silent surroundings listening to the sounds of little creatures, basking on the lavish mattress, all that makes you dream to discover what camping in the glorious destinations of the world means. • never have - never will; gather you won't either!! My sons have and loved it and it is fun to watch
  • Ate lunch outside & watched madmen bungee-jump off Auckland's Sky Tower. Great entertainment, as long as I'm not the jumper. You've tried this?
  • Welcome to Arizona, Iris, premature though that may be. Thank you both for the weather warnings; duly noted!
  • yes, we are lucky...turning away several bookings but it was such a great opportunity, hopefully the summer will make up for it...thanks Donna, everyone says Sedona is beautiful, we have not been to that part of the USA - except Vegas and Grand Canyon :-)
  • Wow, you are lucky Iris to be able to get away during the busy tourist-season! We have to take our vacation during our winter, when we are not quite so busy. Say Hi to Sedona, love it there!!
  • Ed, you will survive through the stimulation of the beauty of the walk if nothing else!! Queen Charlotte is a long way from the South that Donna is talking about, however, there is a VERY cold icy blast sweeping through the south as we speak...edging its way north. Snowing and 8 degrees in Invercargill, Fiordland, Dunedin today, while we are bathing in 24c. here in Hawke's Bay Yesterday was 26; But as you probably know in NZ you can experience 4 seasons in on day!!

We are off to your country next Wed...for 5 weeks, very exciting, exploring the canyons in Arizona and Utah from a base in Sedona, a beautiful home in the desert! cameras clicking and sketch pads out. We might be seeing a little snow as well! but that will add to the beauty and wonderment.

  • Hmmm, if NZ gets a blast from the South, it could be a bit chilly!!...if NZ gets a Nor'wester, you'll be wondering what country you are in!!

Last week Dunedin had 27'C... so be prepared :)

  • All great suggestions. I'm at a Society of American Travel Writers board of directors meeting, after which I attend the general SATW meeting in Wellington. And then, a four-day hike on the Queen Charlotte Track. For better or for worse, my schedule is writ in stone at this point. I do have one big question for which I have no answer: Will I survive that hike?
  • Get a children's book on the earthquake in Napier.
  • There are too many places to single out just a few, but the Coramandel is wonderful and Sharon Johanssen's tours there, Napier's Master's Lodge so romantic, Nelson, lovely and super friendly as is all of New Zealand,

architecture in Wellington, Bay of Islands, on and on forever.  And where you were when you wrote this is the best for dinner and views anywhere.
