The marvelous Roman ruins of Timgad, Algeria

Located near the northeastern city of Batna in the Aurès Mountains, this military town was founded around 100 CE during the reign of the emperor Trajan with the name Colonia Marciana Ulpia Traiana Thamugadi. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's considered one of the best remaining examples of the ancient Romans' grid town plan.
