It is possible to ski in the German Alps
(Bavaria) or in the German Central Uplands where there are many smaller
ski fields. In the Alps there are many options for winter sports
enthusiasts such as downhill and cross-country skiing, snow hiking, snow
boarding, board crossing and more. If you’re interested in something
new why not try skiing in Germany this winter? For the top rated and
classic resort try Garmisch-Partenkirchen
where the 1930 winter Olympics were held - fly to Munich or Innsbruck
and you are about one hour away. Otherwise try the more trendy Oberstdorf, explore the hidden gems of Berchtesgaden or Lenggries or sample the village ambience of Oberammergau or Mittenwald.

You neglected to mention that Garmish-Partenkirchen is in the shadow of the Zugspitze, which is Germany's tallest mountain. The skiing is fabulous, with more than 100 miles of trails, including cross-country. Ditto world-class apres ski. Garmish is the more fashionable 'twin', with designer boutiques and a hopping nightlife. Partenkirchen is the more traditional side.
Also, Munich is bidding on the 2018 Winter Olympics, so G-P might once again be the site of gold medal events. You can read more about Bavaria in my article published in a recent issue of Continental Airlines Magazine
