  • For anyone heading to Berlin, here's an interesting new bit of hotel news from the tourism folks:

Scheduled to open on September 9, 2009, the privately run and uniquely designed Michelberger Hotel promises to bring Berlin’s vibrant way of life and unique historical patina inside its doors. Located near the famous Oberbaum Bridge, the Michelberger Hotel is the brainchild of Tom Michelberger and his friends, who wanted to design a sustainable, authentic establishment that offers a cosmopolitan, yet street-savvy hangout; something where they themselves would like to stay. The hotel features 119 uniquely designed rooms, a courtyard, bar and restaurant. Rates start at Euro 59/night. www.michelbergerhotel.com.
  • Gabba gabba hey, everybody! Just received a Berlin museum update re not one but two august cultural insitutions.

The Ramones Museum (www.RamonesMuseum.com), the only one of its kind, recently moved from the spot where it opened in 2005, and is now at 23 Krausnickstrasse in Berlin-Mitte. Just in case you were wondering, apparently Dee Dee was an army brat who lived here as a kid (and you might remember he wrote the song "Born to die in Berlin.“

Offbeat item number two? Hello, Dalí! Now there's a new museum devoted to Salvador Dalí (the mustachioed Spanish surrealist, he of the melting watches and "An Andalusian Dog") right across from Potsdamer Platz (www.DaliMuseum.de).

    That's a heckuva one-two punch...
