How Princess Cruises is servIng up innovative dining

The exclusive dining experience on the Princess Discovery is unlike any other I have been a part of during my travels. "360: An Extraordinary Experience" is dining immersion making one feel like you’re sitting in the Greek countryside with olive trees or smelling the fragrance of lavender in the south of France. Thanks to Princess Cruises, I savored this time with fellow bloggers. I immediately became captivated with the experience when I heard beautiful music played by two violinists and…

Bon appétit, Seychelles-style

MelanieMaya This archipelago´s cuisine blends various aspects of French, Chinese, Indian and African influences, and not surprisingly, seafood – fish, octopus (above) and shellfish – plays a major role.  Spices that abound here include coriander, ginger, and lemongrass, and other common elements include coconut milk and fruit like tamarind and papaya. Seafood is prepared baked, curried, grilled, salted, smoked, steamed, and wrapped in banana leaves, and invariably served with rice. One…

9 top restaurants & chefs on the Caribbean island of Nevis

Photos: Timothy Leland, except where noted Visiting tiny Nevis - just 36 square miles - is treat enough, with its ravishing nature, pristine beaches, friendly, laid back locals and charming inns (including several in centuries-old former sugar plantations). But it´s also packed with 40 or so of some of the finest restaurants anywhere, with food from local farm-to-table and sea-to-table found on culturally diversified menus on a par to what you might find in some of the world´s culinary…

  • Apart from an unusually tight Senate race and the attempted hanky panky in trying to jigger the state´s traditional approach to the Electoral College, Nebraska has figured more prominently in the 2024 elections because vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz was born and spent more than half his life there. And here the food and drink website TastingTable.com introduces us to Walz´ favorite eatery in Lincoln, and its "Runza" sandwich, which has become a beloved staple throughout the state: https://www.tastingtable.com/1648537/tim-walz-favorite-nebraska-res...

  • I'm heading to Atlanta in a couple of weeks and am staying near and going to a convention near the Georgia world Congress Center.
Which restaurants do you recommend nearby?
    • Hello there, Sandi. Atlanta can be a great dining town but it would help to know a bit about your tastes and budget. Just off the top of my head, there are a couple of restos which nicely update Southern food, both a 10 minute drive away: Sweet Georgia´s Juke Joint on the "soul food" side of things (try the chicken and waffles, and follow it up with the peach cobbler!) along with regular live music, and White Oak (love their take on shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes, plus a great selection of bourbon and whiskey). Others include New South Kitchen and Restaurant 10 (especially for BBQ). And if you like Mexican, try the upscale modern take on it at Alma Cocina.
  • When I was a student at Georgetown University and on all my subsequent visits to Washington DC I loved trying all the different ethnic restaurants in a city full of embassies and immigrants. And this piece about the recent DC food festival New Kitchens on the Block included several interesting-sounding newbies - perhaps the most intriguing being "Thai-Italian fusion" lol: https://www.axios.com/local/washington-dc/2023/05/22/new-kitchens-o...
