Christmas in Goa, India

With one of the highest percentages of Christians in India - around 25 percent - thanks to the legacy of Portuguese colonization (1505-1961), this southwestern state is India's most popular Christmas destination. Churches like the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and the Se Cathedral host midnight masses, streets glow with lanterns, star lights, and nativity displays, and the beaches come alive with music, fireworks, and festive markets. such as appam (savory rice pancakes), bebinca (a Goan layer cake), kulkul (sweet fried dough curls), sorpotel (pork stew), and a variety of other regional sweets.
