The Falkland Islands are a pricey place to visit because of their remoteness; current round-trip airfares from London run around £2,600–£3,100 (US$3,520–$4,200/€3,025–€3,610). Once there, inter-island fares vary by distance and routing but can range from £100 to £200 (US$135–$270/€116–€233) per flight leg. Another commercial connection is LATAM from Punta Arenas in southern Chile to Mount Pleasant Airport, with fares running about £170–£300 (US$230–$405/€200–€350), with occasional lower promotional fares.
As for lodging, in capital Stanley it typically runs about £170–£300 (US$230–$406/€198–€349) per night at the better hotels—the Waterfront Boutique Hotel (above), for example, charges £240 double including breakfast, while Malvina House runs roughly £200–£316 for two depending on room and season. There are also a number of guesthouses and bed and breakfasts (roughly £80–£130/US$108–$176/€93–€151 per night), as well as more than 30 self-catering apartment rentals (£100–£160/US$135–$216/€116–€186).
Out in Camp (the outer islands), accommodations are generally intimate wildlife lodges (like Sea Lion Island´s Sea Lion Lodge, founded, by a son of the famed Antarctic explorer Ernest Shackleton), converted farmhouses, and simple self-catering cottages, with prices ranging from around £80–£100 per person nightly for basic self-catering quarters to roughly £190–£230 at comfortable lodges with full board—a practical necessity on islands with no real restaurants per se.
Speaking of restaurants, dining on the islands is comparatively reasonable: expect about £15–£25 (US$20–$34/€17–€29) for a main course and roughly £35–£50 (US$47–$68/€41–€58) per person for a fuller dinner with drinks.
Guided excursions can be the other major expense: a full-day 4x4 trip to Volunteer Point is around £290/US$398/€338 per person, while a Goose Green/1982 battlefield tour is roughly £185/US$252/€214; shorter wildlife and Stanley excursions start much lower.
Overall, excluding international airfare, £250–£400 (US$340–$540/€290–€465) per person per day is a realistic comfortable budget once you take into account accommodation, meals, internal transport and several major excursions.
