This beach resort city on the Red Sea at the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula (and currently hosting the COP27 international climate conference) was a simple fishing village until the 1980s, when mega development started building Sharm into the major tourism hub it is today. It's known for its beaches and exceptional diving/snorkeling, as well as resorts and nightlife pretty atypical for Egypt. All the honky tonk, though, can be a bit much - I just read that one COP27 delegate commented, " it's like being in Las Vegas, but somehow worse." LOL.
