We've had a lot of rain each evening in San Juan del Sur as well. No landslides here, as yet. We are preparing here at Villas de Palermo for a large outdoor wedding tomorrow night, so we're getting inventive with twinkle lights strung around large canopies.

I've been in Costa Rica these past six days while Hurricane Tomas floods roads, causes mudslides, and has killed at least two dozen people (that's not counting the people who are missing) in the Central Valley area. Eating and sleeping very well at wonderful ecolodges like Finca Rosa Blanca, but can you enjoy anything when there's so much misery just ten miles away?

Idea from the Planet, People, Peace conference in Costa Rica: Everyone wants a bargain, but the difference between traditional visitors and NEO (New Economic Order aka progressive) travelers, according to Deirdre Campbell at the Tartan Group, is that the traditionalists want something that's cheaper today than it was yesterday, but the NEOs want something that costs less today than it will cost tomorrow.

posted this on Africa Safaris group but you guys might now these things too. Friend just called and we were talking outdoors. Told me a strange thing: this year the wildebeast migration was cut short. Instead of staying in the Masai Mara for three months, they're turning back to the Serengetti. Anyone know anything about this and why it's happening?
