Tiger Leaping Gorge is undoubtedly a highlight of any trip to Northern Yunnan but there are several equally beautiful destinations that offer a more off the beaten path travel experience.

If you are looking for alternative two day trekking routes then the hike through the Upper Yangste River around the ancient village of Shitoucheng or the trek from Haba up to pristine Black Sea Lake are two stunning alternatives. Likewise, you can leave the crowds behind with a visit to the wonderful red sandstone outcrops of Liming and continue on to Tacheng to spot the endangered Yunnan Golden monkeys.
