The funky beach town of Livingston is one of a number along the Caribbean coasts of not just Guatemala but also neighboring Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama in which the Garifunas - descendants of settlers from islands such as Barbados, Grenada, Jamaica, and St. Lucia - keep their culture alive, including speaking English as well as Spanish.
