Yanardag, the most famous of Azerbaijan´s fire sites

“The Burning Mountain” is located just a 15-minute drive from Baku in the village of Mammadli. Here natural gas leaks from a thin layer of sandstone, fueling flames that burn continuously, rising up to three meters (ten feet). Walking near these fiery walls, you feel both awe and a strange, gentle warmth — as if the land itself is alive.
