Qəbələ in Azeri, this small, pleasant city and pine-forested region in the southern foothills of the Greater Caucasus some three hours from Baku is Azerbaijan’s main mountain-and outdoor-recreation destination. Other local allures include beautiful Nohur Lake, Yeddi Gozel ("Seven Beauties") waterfall, and in Gabala city´s historic core, the UNESCO World Heritage ruins of the former capital of Caucasian Albania, an important Silk Road settlement and trade depot dating back to the 4th century BCE; the archaeological area includes remnants of a city walls, a medieval fortress and an accompanying museum.
