What's your favorite online airfare booking site?

Just read Kaleel Sakakeeny's interesting blog post Hipmunk, on a new booking engine that's apparently the cat's meow. And recently I heard about an outfit out of Denmark called Momondo.com, which is supposed to crawl something like 800 airfare sites using their own proprietary software. To be honest, I'm a little older and still recall working many moons ago as a student travel agent and poring over the voluminous OAG (Official Airline Guide) book to find cheap flights and good connections, so I'm sometimes at a loss as to the best site for airfares. I sometimes go on AirfareWatchdog.com, other times I go on travelocity, and other times I go directly to the jetblue website and book it right there.

Just wondering if I'm missing something and if there's a majority opinion on which one of all these many options is truly the best for booking flights!

  • Isnt hipmunk reading off itasoftware's engine ? or some CRS ? I have not carefully looked at its underlying search.
  • Always check multiple websites. The Expedia's, Travelocity's, Orbitz' and Priceline's of the world all have different deals with airlines. Each airline offers different bargains on their own sites, especially for business class airfares and consolidators are still excellent for transatlantic travel at low prices right up to departure time.

Momondo, Mobissimo, Hipmunk are all good. Each has a different focus. No one site will always have the best prices. They never have and probably never will. Even airline sites that claim best price guarantee don't really don't guarantee the best price unless the conditions match right down to the commas and semi-colons.
