Birding usually does not involve lots of fancy equipment like other outdoor activities. All you need is your vigor to search for different and beautiful species of birds, along with a bit of patience. But in order to make the most out of your experience, you may need the help of just a small handful of simple, non-high-tech items:

  • Camouflage – When you are in the wild, hoping to ‘quietly’ spot and locate wildlife, camouflage can make a whole lot of a difference. On top of that, birds are very quick in their reactions to movements around them. They can recognize the slightest of the movements around them and that can be a bit of a problem. Therefore, it is important that you dress accordingly. Wear appropriate clothes like cargos and t shirts that are greyish or brownish in color. You can also bring hides along with you to enhance your camouflage in the bushes.
  • Binoculars – Binoculars had to make it to the list. All the birds are nothing tiny brown objects if seen from the naked eye. That is why binoculars are important. Amere binocular can turn vague little brown objects to flamboyant combinations of different colors. However, not all binoculars are made the same. If you want your bird watching experience to be fruitful, then you need to have a good pair of optics. Always go for the better ones. They might be a little heavy on the pocket but they are worth every penny.
  • Spotting Scope – Spotting scopes are similar to binoculars in the sense that they are used to see birds at a faraway distance. But unlike binoculars, spotting scopes are much better and far more preferable for watching birds at a fixed position. Scopes are way heavier and larger than regular binoculars as well. Scopes also come along with angled eye pieces which can be of fixed magnification as well as dynamic magnification. It really depends on how you like it
  • Insect Repellent – do not get shocked. It is pretty obvious that there will be different kinds of insects where you will be staying quite a while when you do your bird watching. The best time for this outdoor activity is the spring season which is also the season when the insects are most active. Insects such as ticks and mosquitoes can be a real pain and need to be dealt with. These are times when you would thank the lord if someone gave you an insect repellent. However, there is a better solution, carry one yourself.

I hope this helps all would-be birders! And keep in mind that the Dandeli region in the north of India's Karnatka state offers some of the best birding in Asia, and our Dandeli resorts offer exquisite, well deisgned birdwatching experiences for our guests.
