Things to See and Do in Australia's Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains are the best nature escape from the busy metropolis. Therefore they are the perfect place for some hard chill sessions, and people who want to have enjoy some peaceful atmosphere after seeing Sydney’s main tourist sites. These mountains are easily accessible and they offer great scenario, that includes vast forest areas and interesting stone formations. In additions to this, these mountains also offer many culture attractions and they are the perfect place for meeting colorful Aboriginal culture. If interesting hike and swimming in crystal clear mountain lakes is your thing, don’t skip the Blue Mountains.

Urban Settlements

Entrance point for each part of this mountain range is going to be one of the urban settlements, that are great for finding guides, mountain tours and mingling with the local population. Blue mountain tours are offered by various agencies like Tours-R-Us, that offer large luxury coaches and can pick you up in front of your Sydney hotel. If you want to reach some of the mountain settlements by yourself, Katoomba would be a logical choice. You can arrive to this settlement by train, car, or with an organized tour. It is a peaceful mountain resort with large hippie community. Some other popular settlements in the mountains are: Leura, Blackheat, Springwood, Glenbrook etc.

Three Sisters

Uluru is the most popular Australian landmark, and Three Sister peaks is a definite runner up. This beautiful nature site has several million visitors annually and according to the Aboriginal legend it represents three sisters that fall in love with three brothers from another tribe, that were turned into stone to stop the tribal wars that would start if brothers would decide to marry them. There’s also an alternative legend that tells the story about three sisters, daughters of local shaman, who were turned in stone by their father who wanted to protect them from angry Bunyip, dangerous and evil creature, from Aboriginal mythology. One way or another this nature sight is definitely worth visiting.

Wentworth Falls

Another nature sight that deserves your attention are the  Wentworth Falls, which is the largest waterfall in the national park, with a small and quiet Wentworth Falls settlement located nearby and a lake with the same name, which is one of the most popular picnic spots in the mountains. These sites are also easily accessible by train, and one of the more famous hikers that wandered around these trails is Charles Darwin, who walked from the train station in the town to the waterfalls, which is an easy and gentle path, accessible to all categories of hikers.

Blackhet Area

Govetts Leap near the town of Blackheat offers one of the best views in the mountain range. It is easily accessible, and next to it you can find a Farifax Heritage Track that is wheelchair friendly. This trail offers fantastic view over Gros Valley and it has a lot of benches for hikers to relax and enjoy the scenario.

Six Foot Track

Probably the most popular walking track in the Blue mountains is Six Foot Track that leads from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves. It goes through several national parks and it can be done in three days, while some of the more accessible parts of the track can be done as daily tours.

Garden Chill

Blue Mountains are famous for its gardens,which are the ultimate place to chill and relax. The most popular one is definitely the Blue Mountain Botanic Garden. This is the highest botanic garden in Australia and here you can find a magnificent collection of plants from colder parts of Southern hemisphere.
