Australia

Australia has lots to offer as a wine tourism destination. Wine is grown in every state and there is a strong tradition of wineries, large and small, welcoming visitors with usually free tastings.

Most international visitors have heard of the major regions, the Barossa and Hunter valleys for example but there are over 60 wine regions. Most tourist destinations outside tropical Australia have nearby wineries to visit.

The dominant wine variety used in Australia is Shiraz. Red wines from this variety are popular throughout the world. Visitors are sometimes surprised to find out just how many grape varieties are used in Australia - Vinodiversity lists 130 or so different wine varieties that are used in Australia.
