  • If writing for future pay fits your needs - say you need to place a piece from a FAM trip - do what works for you. But first, take a look at a site's advertising page. How many readers to they have per month? Do they have twitter followers? How many? Are they on Facebook? How many fans do they have? Actually, look at several competing online magazines to get an idea of what to expect. Educate yourself first before agreeing to anything.
  • Sandy,

    I would argue not.

We've all got a couple of near-and-dear-to-our-hearts pieces kicking around, especially things without strong service angles, which can be harder to place. I'm specifically after those. (And it's not unpaid, but rather paid on contingency, and with advertising.)

  • I wish people wouldn't bother posting "no pay" come-ons -- or at least state the terms up-front. It's a complete waste of time for working writers.
