The Everglades is spread out across 735 square miles (19,000 sq. km) of southern Florida, west of popular tourist destinations including Miami and Fort Lauderdale, and everyone who visits should tear themselves away from the beaches and so forth to experience the awesome sweep of one of the world's great wetlands.
