Birdwatchers/birders are of course a special breed, and many in admiration of our fine feathered friends will go to the ends of the earth. In this group, avians R us!
For the 'aves': the art and sport of falconry in Spain
Tom Meaker by Inka Piegsa-Quischotte Feet firmly planted on the ground, left elbow out, forearm straight, hand and wrist covered with a thick leather glove, I looked apprehensively at the master falconer standing by my side. He had just sent a magnificent Harris's hawk into the air, soaring into the sky, then swooping down towards me. “He won’t attack me, will he?” I asked. “Not unless he mistakes you for a rabbit,” the instructor deadpanned, “and there is no chance of that”, he grinned. Here is what "Naturalist Journeys" says about Jamaica:
" Jamaica. Beautiful migrant warblers in fresh spring plumage hanging out in the Wild Orchid tree by the pool. Long white sand beaches, colorful characters, the vibrancy of life. (Narca's) pick for the cutest bird of the trip is the Jamaican Tody, which reminds her of the Tody Motmot she loves in Belize and Panama. The Tody family (Todidae) is one of two families unique to the Caribbean.
Don't Miss this one!! We find Jamaica very exciting, and so comfortable to be in while birding. We are positively pampered at the Hotel Mocking Bird Hill"
