The USA's most populous state is practically a country unto itself, divided between green north and arid south. Highlights: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, San Diego, Napa/Sonoma wine country, Disneyland, redwood country, skiing, driving the Pacific Coast Highway, and lots more.
Our hearts go out to the people of Los Angeles County who have lost their homes and in some cases lives in the horiffic wildfires. To learn how to help, click here.

Accessible skiing and breathtaking beauty in one of the world's most special places...today at The World on Wheels, we remember our sit-skiing adventure in Yosemite National Park:http://tinyurl.com/yb2rsr5

You ever dream about finding that perfect backroad with just enough curves, enticing scenery, and absolutely no traffic in front of you? Last week, it happened to me up near Paso Robles, California, so I mounted the video camera, turned it on, and recorded the results. It's 20 miles of near perfect backroad driving in less than five minutes today on The World on Wheels - come on over for the Highway 41 Thrill Ride: http://tinyurl.com/7pkkrf6

Happy New Year's from The World on Wheels. We're trying something a little different this week, a couple of rides on different kinds of wheels. Our first report of the year is a hidden gem...a fast, five mile ride down the San Gabriel River Bike Trail, located about 20 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Come along for the ride: http://tinyurl.com/7xcdou2

Linda, I love exploring the hidden roads in this state...my wife and son, not so much. Found a new (to me) road between Paso Robles and Atascadero this week. I'm making a video of it and hope to post it on our blog in a few days.
I have Backroads to California..It is terrific. I can't wait to check out some of the drives in this book.
wish you all a Happy new year
A few years ago my wife almost lost partial use of her hand when someone slammed into her while skiing in Vermont. Now all six Vail Resorts have unveiled a serious new safety program. Merry Christmas!

Hi everyone! Just FYI, our current read of the week is a great guidebook, Backroads of the California Coast, by member Karen Misuraca.
Today on The World on Wheels...of all the reports we've done, this is the first one that got me "detained" by law enforcement. This is where you don't want to end up staying when you're in L.A., The Dungeons of Los Angeles: http://tinyurl.com/79efcy6
