Souvenir Shopping in Europe/Morocco

File:Tourist items, Toledo.JPG

Whether or not you’re a shopper (and I can’t say that I particularly am), I do love me some good travel mementos. However, I’m not talking about the rubbish you see at the average stand aimed at tourists who barely know where they are (I’ll never forget the joints hawking spangly Mexican sombreros at the Leaning Tower of Pisa).

Whether you’re shopping for yourself or others, there are certain items that will always be worth seeking out. Paintings and other kinds of art are a prime example – wh

Choose any flavor.  The gelati at Balducci’s are imported from Italy and taste like no other ice cream – milky, not fatty, with a light, slightly icy texture (without being teeth-shattering), and with just the right amount of sweetness.

Emil Grosso, VP of the Balducci development at the new 2,150-square-foot Gourmet on the Go Café at 300 West 56th Street, asked if I’d care to have a gelato sandwich. Never having tasted it, I was intrigued and mumbled OK, watching while he slit opened a big, soft

The Surajkund Mela is an eye-opener for the city slicker to the best skills from rural India as Thommen Jose found out. Photographs by Raushni Abraham

You reach Surajkund even before you can say ‘Surajkund Mela’. You are there even before you realise that you are in the outskirts of Delhi. For Delhi-ites used to getting into Gurgaon or Noida for work or shopping, the drive to the annual gala-mela is hardly a drive. Then, it is not exactly supposed to be one either. Atenas farmers' market

by Shanon Farley

It is a Friday morning in my little mountain coffee town of Atenas, Costa Rica. The traditional Friday farmers’ market, called a “feria” in Spanish, is abuzz with shoppers and vendors.

Fresh flowers at the Atenas Costa Rica market
Mounds of mangoes, melons, watermelon, pineapples and a myriad of other
fruits juicily beckon buyers. Crisp lettuces, spinach, cilantro and other greens glisten with water droplets. Fat potatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, yucca and carrots stack in pyramids. The flower man is doing brisk business c

It only takes a bit of sunshine to inundate Firenze with tourists. Florence is one of the most visited cities in the wold, and rightly so given the wealth of its historical offerings and the charm of the city itself. Few tourist destinations have so much to offer in a relatively small area, and the fact that Firenze is essentially a walking city makes it all the more appealing. Cruise ships have made Firenze a major port of call for their Mediterranean cruises even though the city lies about 60

Food, Fashion and Fancy in London’s Markets

Covered, uncovered, on streets or converted Victorian buildings, London’s markets are a long-standing tradition in the British capital, and a great way to rub shoulders with the locals. Below are some of our favourites:

Borough Market

Borough Market is not only our favourite market in London, but one of our favourite places in the city, period. It’s been operating on London’s South Bank, near London Bridge for almost 300 years, making it the city’s oldest fruit and vegetable market. The abundance

One of the fabulous things about Majorca today is that the island’s many markets are thriving more than ever. For it’s in the hustle and bustle, the rainbow colours and mix of aromas that you find the true soul of a destination. For many visitors there’s no better experience than soaking up the authentic atmosphere of a local market whilst haggling about the price of arts and crafts or tasting some of the local produce.

Throughout the week, towns all over the island hold their weekly markets.

One day to explore Sapa Bac Ha market

Visitors to Sapa should not miss Sapa Bac Ha market, a famous highland market throughout the Northwest region.

Along the way, visitors will see the high mountain, the terraced fields and encounter each ethnic group laughing gurglingly and leading horses to market to sell. To keep up with the market, they have to get up early. Even there is someone who starts their journey to market from the previous day.

New York Shopping in a Tight Spot

Shopping in New York City, even for a somewhat jaded ex-New Yorker like myself, can often yield some pretty nifty surprises. A few years ago, to cite but one example, I found three spectacular wooden Catholic saints from Macau in an outdoor Chelsea antiques market that no longer exists (thanks to a new condo). What caught my eye about these saints was their distinct Asian features, something I'd never seen before, or since. The price? $90 each. Two still adorn my home in Miami; the third I sold
