700px-Heinold’s_First_and_Last_Chance_2007[1] I stumbled across a Facebook page  called, "You Know You're from Oakland If ..."

There were comments about all sorts of local trivia, long closed restaurants, streets that have undergone name changes ...

Reading all of those comments brought back lots of memories and made me a bit homesick because Oakland, California, is my hometown. But I haven't actually lived there for 30 years, and I left the Bay Area 20 years ago to live in Hong Kong.

So I decided to research a post on the Top 10 Spots to T

Death by Too Many  Reviews

Chris Colin writes a great essay in Wired Magazine.

He’s probably best known for the terrific and funny, What Really Happened to the Class of ’93.

But in his recent Wired Magazine piece, he suggests we are suffering from “review” overload.

For every slew of new data and information that’s produced, he says, (think videos, blogs, ebooks, tweets, Facebook postings) there is an equal avalanche of reviews that follow.

He talks about a “parallel universe” of stars, rankings,

9008626255?profile=originalDining in Miami just keeps getting better. Just this morning, on the way back from an appointment, we were looking for a place to have a quick, simple lunch, and settled on a French café that opened not too long ago on Miracle Mile, in the heart of chichi Coral Gables (one of the few parts of South Florida that feels like a real city and not a suburb). We knew the Rendez Vous French Café and Wine Shop would be good as we stepped in the door and the aroma of fresh-baked quiches and café au lait w

No less than 15 Michelin stars now shine in the Vaucluse, which makes it the most "starred" department in France (in relation to the number of inhabitants) and 5 new "Bib Gourmands" have been granted to establishments that offer their clientele tasty cuisine with excellent value for money.

First of all, the much-awaited is the The Hôtel d'Europe**** in Avignon and its chef Bruno D'Angelis, where three stars have just been awarded. They have rightfully regained a star which had been taken away in

Don't Miss Gigi in Miami!

Tired from a morning of working on blogs, my companion and I went to "gigi" in Miami for a quick bite to eat. I knew I was hungry and wanted to try something new, and as a resident of Miami, my companion said she had heard great things about "gigi".

I was not to be disappointed. The concepts are fresh and small plates for sharing, and they are dead on. The menu is a two-sided 8 1/2 x 5 piece of heavy stock paper with the alcohol menu on one side and the lunch offerings on the other. We ordered si

La Jolla Wine Tours

Where are La Jolla’s best restaurants?

Our eclectic food and wine scene can be a bit overwhelming for the first time visitor, but Shira Wiseman will be happy to help you get the lay of the land.

This local foodie offers culinary walking tours of the village and, in the process, helps fellow San Diegans and out-of-towners find our best food and wine gems.

Her three-hour excursions include four to five stops, including local restaurants, a purveyor of chocolates, and a little-known source for gourme

Color me still underwhelmed by much of the South Beach dining scene lots of flash, but frankly longer on attitude than substance. Having said that, in recent years things have started to evolve a bit in good ways. Nonetheless, when last weekend I strolled for the first time into Eden South Beach, an eatery opened at the end of October in the space once occupied by longtime local culinary darling Talula, let's just say my expectations were less than stratospheric.

The space was bought on August

Financial meltdown, economic slump, subprime crisis? All of these words seem to belong to the past for the tourism industry in Rome.

The number of tourists visiting Italy’s capital in August grew by 11,5%, Vicemayor Mauro Cutrufo said on October 6, citing figures from a study of the Ente Bilaterale del Turismo del Lazio – EBTL - Tourism Board of Employers and Employees of the region of Rome.

Pierre's is quite possibly one of the most romantic places to dine in South Florida and a relatively short drive from Miami, well worth the "escape" from urban life. The restaurant and lounge is located on a private beach with gorgeous sunsets over tranquil Florida Bay.

After telling a friend about a good dining deal in Toronto— her own home town — she said, “I’ll have to go there; I don’t know that restaurant.” Understandable. Canada‘s largest city is as rich in restaurants as it is in museums, galleries, theaters, boutiques, clubs, and more clubs.

You can always find affordable restaurants in Kensington, the St. Lawrence Market, and Chinatown, but you already knew that. So here are a half-dozen spots for affordable dining beyond the obvious; some are places

A Buenos Aires Tradition: INSIDE RestoBar

By Roy Heale

The famous Follies Bergère cabaret of Paris led the way in risqué entertainment in the late nineteenth century. In England “The Full Monty” became a household expression in the 1990s. But today in Buenos Aires one of the renowned main attractions for tourists and locals alike is the dinner and dance at INSIDE RestoBar. This is where, during dinner, the dance is not Tango but rather it refers to some hot, Latin male performers who slowly peel off all their attire with audience partici

Thailand Food Tour: Blissed Out In Bangkok

by Barbara Ramsay Orr

For someone with a healthy appetite like me, the lure of Thailand and Thai food is irresistible. I love the temples, the generous and polite people, the golden Buddhas, and all of the colour and drama of Bangkok. But I am an unapologetic foodie, and the moments of culinary bliss that I have experienced in Bangkok figure prominently in my memories of this city, right up there with the saffron-clad monks and the jewelled temples.

Bangkok is a big city, and it can be intimida

Coconut Shrimp from Grenada, The Spice Isle

by Tripatini staff

caribbean shrimp, maca bana, aquarium, grenadaHere's why Grenada, aka the Spice Island, is the Caribbean isle of your dreams: Locals offer visitors a warm welcome, food is sourced locally instead of being crated in from other continents, and lovely beaches are dotted with little hideaways rather than highrise hotels. One of the nicest small resorts is Maca Bana, a boutique hotel with seven romantic villas on a hill overlooking the beach and sea. And it's not just a great place to stay: It's a wonderful place to eat.

Sticking to the on site restaurants within your hotel does not always make for a wise dining itinerary. Chances are the price point is setfor unwitting tourists and the food may not represent the region’s bestofferings. I recently joined a blogger group on a sponsored visit toVegas’ Monte Carlo Hotel resolved to challenge thisconventional bit of wisdom. After all, the hotel wasn’t oversellingtheir restaurants as “best on the strip” but simply presented the venuesand let you decide. I was impress
