When looking at the cost of a cruise in the Mediterranean, one of the largest expenses is shore excursions. Most people assume that since they are in a foreign country, it makes sense to pay the high price for cruise sponsored excursions. While these excursions do provide the traveler the guarantee that the ship will not leave without them as well as a licensed guide, many ports are so easy to tour on your own that the DIY option

What Makes a Good Cruise Review?

9008664681?profile=originalCruize Cast: Cruise Blog
Today, I was inspired by a blog post on MeetOnCruise.com http://meetoncruise.com/blog/who-wrote-that-cruise-review to write almost a companion piece. That article asked whether or not it matters who writes a cruise review as to if is trustworthy or useful. As I began thinking about this question, I came to the conclusion that, for me, who writes the review is not nearly as important as what they say. So, what DO I look for in a cruise review? Details and honesty.

Britto brilla en altamar

9008653270?profile=original

A Visit to Ephesus, Turkey

9008645691?profile=original

When I first visited Turkey, I did something I won’t be able to do again. I gave the coach driver a 2 million lira tip! Shortly after my visit, the revalued their currency, simply by deleting the word ‘million’. The Turk with the price of a packet of cigarettes in his pocket is no longer a millionaire!

But, we weren’t there to marvel at the currency. Most of the shopkeepers in the resort town of Kusadasi, where our cruise ship called on its tour around the Aegean Sea preferred to take Euros, an

A 'Junk' Trip in Vietnam

I hunkered in the doorway of an office building as gray clouds moved in, threatening to break open above me. Piles of luggage were stacked in the doorway, but I held tightly to my backpack. As a solo traveler making my way through Vietnam, I had yet to let someone else touch my bag, the essence of my livelihood halfway around the world.

Earlier that morning I had taken a hired car from Hanoi to the coast of Vietnam. This part of the country, known as Halong Bay, was rumored to be tacky and touris

Welcome to tripatini! An introduction...

Hello All,

I am so glad to find this website and all of its resources and thought I'd take the time to introduce myself and weasel my way into the community - lol. My husband and I consider ourselves avid travelers, in the past time and money constricted what we could do - now it is just money. We retired last year, I was a teacher, he worked for the utility company. Our travel was restricted to spring breaks and summer vacations - now we can take advantage of offers anytime of the year and are

Up and until last March I thought I had seen unusual and intriguing sights but I must admit this experience did surprise me. We organized a travel agents' famil to the Mekong Delta of Vietnam /Cambodia. After having spent the first two nights at the start of our journey in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in utter luxury, we boarded a fairly large ship (fit to cruise only on a river) . Once on the ship, the crew escorted us to our individual cabins. The crew consists of wonderful local staff w

Princess Cruises’ Facebook Travel Contest May Sink the Ship

In the last month or so, I’ve received a half dozen Facebook Travel Contests offering all kinds of wonderful trips to the winner.

One came from Queensland, Australia, a solid contest that was rendered irrelevant by the horrific floods there.

Then there was the Carnival Cruise Lines Facebook promo we reported on at New Media Travel and now,  Princess Cruises has just launched a Facebook Contest for the “Best Travel Bucket St

Carnival Cruise Lines Goes Facebook, Skips Web Site

It’ a great video. It’s fun, alive, upbeat and touches a travel nerve: It’s Carnival Cruise Line’s new advertising campaign, “Hey America, Didja Ever.”

But the video is not on the cruise line’s web site, confirming, once again, that searches for authentic travel experiences are not found on search engines or on web sites, but on social media networks.

It’s here where people can question, connect and participate with real people in
