Where to Eat in London

From July 27th to August 12th, England hosts the Olympics at sites in or nearby greater London. Our traveling foodie, David Latt, recently made a stop in London to search out affordable and interesting places to eat. Long disparaged, English food has had a renaissance with innovative chefs following global trends in the pursuit of locally sourced, farmers market fresh ingredients.

Going to the Olympics will be a huge amount of fun, especially if you know where to eat. Before I left on the trip,

9008714874?profile=originalIn 2012, London is having one of the most exciting years in its history, with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this past June and now the 2012 Olympic Games starting on 27 July. But are Londoners proud? Do they realise how lucky they are? Are they embracing the summer of fun or whinging? Well...

The Royal Wedding in 2011 was a good 'excitement barometer' to test the public's ability to embrace a national celebration. Yes, we whinged really impressively leading up to the big day last April, but when

This summer much of the world's eyes will be on London, England and the Summer Olympic Games. Perhaps the world premier sporting event begins on July 27th and continues until August 12.  Needless to say, such a major event, even for a city as large as London is no simple matter.  Organizing such a major event is no easy matter.  For example the Olympics will have over 23,000 security professionals and it is estimated that security alone will cost more than one billion British pound sterling. If an earthquake had started shaking southern California on a recent Sunday night, we might not have felt it at the Thornton Winery, in the Temecula Valley Wine Country, where guests were doing their own kind of shaking to the spirited, heartfelt beat of jazz saxophonist and singer, Mindi Abair. With her high energy vibe, Mindi was the ideal musician to launch Thornton Winery’s 24th Annual Champagne Jazz Series. Mindi and her talented band had everyone on their feet clapping, dancing and singing

Mohegan Sun here in Connecticut’s Mystic Country held its first annual BBQ Fest, and I was honored to be invited and check out the festivities, running Friday, June 1 through Sunday, June 3. I picked a Saturday visit, which turned out to be the rainiest! Originally scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., gates didn’t open until 3 p.m. when miraculously, the clouds stopped dripping and actual shafts of sunlight were able to occasionally poke through. Within minutes, lines were snaking from 6 venerable

Brazil 2014 World Cup

by Andy Jarozs

There may have been some controversy about who should've hosted the future football (aka soccer) World Cup (there usually seems to be). Few people, however, were surprised when Brazil was awarded the honor of staging what is arguably the ultimate global sporting event. For the 2014 World Cup Brazil will host 32 of the world’s leading soccer nations in an event that will be watched by millions of people in the stadiums and billions more on TVs around the world. For many of the na

The Economics of Event Planning

Each year nations around the world compete for major events.  These events can range from sporting events to political events, from major conventions to religious festivals.  In all cases, and despite their different themes, these events are judged not only be the quality of the event but also by the events economic success or failure.  No matter what we call the event or what its purpose may be, on some level events are a business and the locale that chooses to ignore the business side of the e

Dust off “dem golden slippers” and strut off to Philadelphia for a splendiferous New Year celebration. Philly’s Winter Mummerland is a multi-day family event that culminates in the Mummer’s Parade, America’s oldest folk parade, on New Year’s Day, where the weather may be cold, but the hospitality is red-hot. The costumes and fun evoke Mardi Gras, the floats compare with those in the Tournament of Roses Parade, but best of all it is fun for the whole family.

The Mummers Parade grew out of Europea

Petering out crowd is a challenge to any festival. Keeping the audience interest alive is a comment on the organisers’ ingenuity and imagination. Day three of the Hornbill in Nagaland in December was therefore a test; the teasers had done their job, the flitters had left and the real festival junkies slouched around to check whether the varnish peeled. With the honeymoon over and the real business of the festival settling in, the best way out was to rekindle the passion for storytelling so preva

Kites of Sumpango

Small town near Guatemala City and Antigua lives for the Festival of gigantic kites. This tradition exists in some parts of Guatemala for a long time now. To be there on Day of the dead is quite a unique experience...

Idea to make gigantic kite, more than twenty meters in diameter that will never fly may sound crazy. But, when you come to the festival, it seems so logical and nice; colors, pictures and messages that can be seen on every single one of the kites exhibited here create special atmosp
