Gurvan Saikhan National Park is located in the southern part of Mongolia. It was set up in the year 1993. At that time its area was a little lesser. Today the area is around 27,000 square km. This area was expanded to its current size in the year 2000. Gobi Gurvan Saikhan National Park is one of the biggest and beautiful National Parks in Mongolia. It is very wide from east to west. It is lesser in width from north to south. It stretches around 380 km from east to west. Its length from north to south is only 80 km. There are famous Gurvan Saikhan Mountains in Mongolia. It is the because of these mountains the national park has been named Gurvan Saikhan National Park. The mountains have three beauties. Those three beauties are three sub-ranges; the east beauty, the middle beauty, and the west beauty. These three beauties are in the National Park. These three beauties are the part of the eastern half of the park. Rather it will be more correct to say that they form the Eastern half of the park.
The location of the park is on the northern edge of the Gobi Desert. This is the reason the national park has been named as Gobi Guruvan Saikhan National Park. There are higher elevations at some points in the National Park because of steppe in the desert. Those elevations can reach up to 2600 meters of height. There are some amazing rare plants and animals which are found in the park. You will get an opportunity to see snow leopard (known as an ounce) and Gobi Camel. Gobi camel is also called as a Bactrian camel. He has large even-toed ungulate which is native to the steppes of Central Asia. There are 2 humps on the back of the Gobi Camel.
Gurvan Saikhan National Park has wonderful sand dunes, the mountain with chance and Ice Canyon. It can be called as one of the most popular national parks of Mongolia. There are many sites of this National Park. Some areas of it are developed and some are still developing. Some people call it the feeling of landing on Mars because of the eerie landscapes where there is lacking life as it is sparsely populated.
