And while all the above certainly remain among the world´s most powerful performers in tourism, the World Travel Awards (dubbed “the Oscars of travel”) in 2023 have underscored strong showings outside these traditional areas, particularly in Asia and the Middle East. Here´s a quick rundown of this year´s winners:

At the top of the list again: the Maldives, which for the fourth year in a row nabbed “World’s Leading Destination” thanks especially to its paradisiacal plethora of beaches, coral reefs, luxury resorts and spas, and adventure options. And as the icing on the cake, for the second consecutive year the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation (MMPRC) got top honors as the “World’s Leading Tourist Board.” Kudos, of course! But at the same time, it´s also worth noting that this extremely low-lying country is one of those most in danger over the coming decades from climate change, especially as it pertains to sea-level rise.

Read more on Tripatini about the Maldives here.

Philippines.travel

Speaking of the seas, farther east in Asia the Philippines also proved a big winner for its water-centric allures, winning “World’s Leading Beach Destination” (for the likes of Boracay Island off the major island of Panay and Palawan Island 118 miles to the southwest, as well as the beaches of Cebu province in the south center of the sprawling Philippine archipelago). The country also nabbed “World’s Leading Dive Destination” thanks to spots like Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park near Palawan and Apo Reef Natural Park off the town of Sablayan on the island of Mindoro, just south of Luzon.

Read more on Tripatini about Boracay here and the Philippines in general here.

In large part thanks to that, and to hosting with distinction various other sporting events since, its capital Doha was awarded “World’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination,” and the ‘World’s Leading Business Travel Destination” thanks to its aggressive pursuit of the meetings and conventions sector as well as rapidly expanding business facilities and infrastructure. Qatar Tourism was also feted for this year´s top destination marketing campaign (which among other things for example featured one of the world´s top soccer legends, David Beckham, traveling around the country), though the country also received some international pushback due to its sketchy human rights and especially anit-gay record. Be that as it may, all of this contributed to a rise in Qatar tourism this year of more than 140 percent.

Europe of course continued to put in very strong performances this year as well, and at the World Travel Awards “World´s Leading Island Destination” went to Madeira, a balmy, dreamy outpost of Portugal in the Atlantic Ocean famed for its dramatic landscapes and often pristine beaches as well as its food and wine. And this year the “World’s Leading Festival and Event Destination” was the ever-glamourous French Riviera city of Cannes.

Ditto for the Caribbean, where Saint Lucia took “World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination” thanks to its romantic landscapes (especially its irresistibly photogenic twink peaks, the Pitons) and beaches. Meanwhile, Jamaica of course continues to be one of the region´s top tourism powerhouses, and these awards came away with the twin honors of the top family and cruise destination.

Travel time and cost depends on where you are going to the islands from. The hassle of flights and transfers is compensated by the ease of obtaining a visa and a 100% paradise vacation that awaits you ahead. Trips to the Maldives are organized by many operators and agencies, but we turned to a company that has been on the market for exotic islands for more than 8 years - wiotto.com. On this site you will find answers to all questions related to holidays in the Maldives: from the "Questions - Answers" section and a blog with articles about the islands, to a detailed catalog with a convenient system for searching and filtering hotels. Today wiotto.com will tell you about how to get to the Maldives and what difficulties you may encounter.

Visa to the Maldives

A tourist visa to the Maldives is issued to all nationalities upon arrival at the airport free of charge for a period of 30 days. After these 30 days, the visa can be extended for another 60 days by contacting the Department of Immigration on the spot.

What is required to obtain a visa:

A foreign passport with a machine-readable zone (MRZ) with a validity period of at least one month from the start of the trip.

Confirmation of the purpose of your stay in the Maldives: return air ticket, hotel reservation or proof of funds for your stay in the islands (minimum $150 per day). You can book a hotel and receive a booking confirmation in the Maldives catalog on wiotto.com.

Completed online Traveler Declaration - 96 hours prior to arrival on the islands. There it is necessary to indicate the classic information about tourists, details of the trip, purpose of the visit, etc.

Possession of a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you are coming from a country where it can be common. As a rule, these are some countries in Africa and South America.

The presence of these requirements does not give a 100% guarantee that you will receive a visa on arrival, since the decision is made by the migration service on the spot and may depend on other factors. However, in most cases, tourists receive a visa without problems.

Important: embassies of the Maldives, as well as any tourist or visa centers do not issue a visa to the Maldives. It can only be obtained upon arrival at the Maldives airport. The bulk of tourists arrive at Velana International Airport in the capital of the Maldives - Male.

Covid-19 restrictions

As of the time of writing, there are no restrictions or requirements for visiting the Maldives. All of them were filmed in 2022. If tourists have such a need, in the relevant institutions, including on the territory of resort islands, you can do a test for Covid -19 by notifying the hotel administration in advance.

Flight to the Maldives - how to get there

The Maldives is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, relatively close to Sri Lanka. Accordingly, you can only get to the paradise islands by plane. There is no ship tourist communication with the Maldives, since the distance to the nearest mainland is very large. The flight to the Maldives consists of two stages:

Flight from your country to the capital Male - Velana International Airport. There are several other international airports in the Maldives, but it is most likely that you will fly to Male, since this is the largest hub on the islands and this is where the majority of transfers to resorts are made.

Transfer from Male to the resort island can be carried out in three ways: by speedboat (during the day, and some hotels around the clock), domestic airlines + boat (from morning to evening), by seaplane (from 6 am to 4 pm). Depending on the type of transfer, distance and comfort conditions, a trip for two back and forth can cost from $50 to several tens of thousands. Average transfer costs about 200-600 dollars for two round trip. When booking Maldives hotel on wiotto.com, you will be prompted to select the appropriate transfer type. By the way, all taxes and fees are already included in the price of the hotel presented in the catalog.

Flight to Maldives, depending on the location of your country, as well as the selected airlines, may be direct or with a transfer. As a rule, most transfers or refueling are carried out at airports:

Istanbul (IST) in Turkey for Turkish airlines;

Hamad in the capital of Qatar Doha (DOH) for Qatar Airways;

Dubai to UAE (DXB) for Emirates and Fly Dubai;

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (AUH) for Etihad Airways;

Muscat in Oman (MCT) for Oman Air.

Direct flights to the Maldives from Europe are carried out from the following countries: France (Paris), Great Britain (London), Italy (Rome), Austria (Vienna), Germany (Frankfurt), Switzerland (Zurich) and others.

Direct flights to the Maldives from Asia are operated from the following countries: UAE (Dubai), Oman (Muscat), Bahrain (Muharraq), Qatar (Doha), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh), Turkey (Istanbul), Thailand (Bangkok), India (Mumbai), Sri Lanka (Colombo) and others.

There are no direct flights from America to the Maldives. Transplantation is carried out either in Europe or in Asia.

Tip: when planning a trip to the islands, book a hotel in the Maldives in advance - 3-4 months before the trip, you will have a much larger selection of available villas. You will be able to book exactly the resort that suits your wishes and budget. If you look for a hotel for a week or two, there are many chances that there will be no free villas. In addition, early booking is more profitable, because there are often discounts. Contact online chat wiotto.com - managers will advise and help you choose a resort.

4 Ravishing Romantic Destinations for Couples in 2023https://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/romantic-travel-destinations-maldives-miami-paris-bali2023-02-10T13:20:00.000Z2023-02-10T13:20:00.000ZSadie Brookshttps://tripatini.com/members/SadieBrooks

Haveseen

Valentine's Day is once again upon us!
If there were ever a paradise on earth, the Maldives would be it. Lying in the lap of nature’s exquisite beauty, this archipelago of 26 atolls and nearly 1,200 islands and islets in the Indian Ocean several hundred miles southwest of Sri Lanka and India has become one of the world's most popular travel getaways. This country is famous for its pristine waters, clean sandy beaches, luxurious resorts, exciting leisure activities, and lip-smacking cuisine. There are myriad exciting things you can do on a dream Maldives holiday, and here are ten of the best:

Scuba Dive in the Crystalline Waters

With so many paradisical atolls and reefs, it's no surprise that diving is one of the top activities in the Maldives, whether on independent dive outfitter excursions, liveaboards, or dive resorts. Cave and wreck diving are specialties here, and in addition to myriad colorful corals and some 1,100 species of fish, you can spot the likes of manta and other rays, reef and various other sharks, and giant marine turtles.

Snorkel the Reefs with Sea Turtles and More

If you're unwilling and unable to dive the deeper depths, there are plenty of lagoons and other shallows surrounding the archipelago's 2,500-some reefs - certain of which offer "extras" like manta rays and marine turtles. There are plenty of exursions offering snorkeling off boats, as well as a number of resorts with "house reefs" on which guests can snorkel at their leisure.

Surf Your Heart Out

So many islands naturally offer tons of surf breaks, and here too you can access them from resorts and guest houses or take boat excursions to others which are more out of the way. One especially popular spot is Cinnamon Dhonveli resort in the North Malé Atoll. There's something for all skill levels, and the peak surfing season is March through November (especially June through August).

Relax on the White-Sand Beaches

Soft, white powder lapped by clear turquoise waters and backed by palms and lush vegetation - this more than anything else is what brings visitors to the Maldives. And of the hundreds of options, among the standouts are on tiny Mudhhoo Island (notable expecially for its glowing bioluminescent plankton at night), castaway Fulhadhoo Island, Maafushi Island's Bikini Beach, Vabbinfaru Island (especially great for fabulous snorkeling from the beach, and Rasdhoo Island, with one of the country's largest strands.

Check Out these Beautiful Islands from the Sky

Whether via seaplane tours or parasailing/paragliding, you'll find that the Maldives are just as magical from aloft as at ground level. Perhaps even more so, taking in the many clusters of emerald green fringed by brilliant white sands and surrounded by crystalline waters in various shades of blue and green.

Cast a Fishing Line

The Maldives are packed with angling options, including shore fishing, deep-sea charters, and night fishing from traditional dhoni fishing boats. Popular species include tuna (especially yellowfin), wahoo, grouper, marlin, and the most prized of all, giant trevally, ranging up to a whopping 80 pounds.

Enjoy Exotic Sunsets and Sunrises

Most of the Maldives' expanse is ocean, and the islands are exceptionally close to the water - the lowest-lying country on earth, in fact - and so there are more water and salt molecules in the air to scatter the setting and rising sun's light, meaning exceptionally glorious reds, pinks, and oranges no matter where you are in these islands.

Relax Your Body with a Spa Treatment

These islands are packed with standalone spas as well as luxury resorts with extensive spa facilities, offering Balinese and Thai massages, Ayurveda, and various other relaxing and rejuvenating treatments. Top resorts according to Tripadvisor include Ayada Maldives, Hurawalhi Island Resort, Joali Maldives, LUX* South Ari Atoll, and Sun Siuam Iru Veli.

Relish Authentic Maldivian Cuisine

Also known as Dhivehi cuisine, the exotic local menu is characterized by mild spiciness, sometimes a light touch of sweetness, and an overall exotic flavor. There's some notable Influence from India and Sri Lanka, and foodstuffs are drawn especially from coconuts (meat and milk), fish (especially skipjack tuna) and starches such as rice, sweet potato, cassava, and taro. Then of course there are the plentiful tropical fruits and juices. Popular dishes include garudhiya (fish soup) as well as vegetable, seafood, and chicken curries.

Go Island Hopping

Various islands have different things to offer - some glitzier, others more castaway, yet others especially notable for enjoying local culture - and you should definitely visit several during your stay, via seaplane, dhoni, sailboat, or speedboat.

When planning a vacation in the Maldives, you need to ensure timely bookings and reservations at some of the best resorts in Maldives. This will ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay in this beautiful island country. There is no dearth of beautiful resorts in Maldives but before making reservation in any of them, it is important to consider a few factors and make the right choice.

Before considering this destination for vacation, it is important to understand that is not an ideal place for highly budget conscious people. Still with some proper research, one can identify star resorts that gives a fair chance to the discerning travelers to enjoy the delights of this place.

Factors to consider when choosing Maldives Resorts

Budget

Budget is the most important factor that demands due consideration when choosing from among the best Maldives resorts. Visitors need to determine their budget and accordingly check out the resorts falling in that bracket. This will help you streamline your search and narrow down the list of possible options.

Interest

Next you need to identify your interest. If you are interested in diving, look for a resort that has diving facilities. Remember, not all resorts may offer this facility. Also, check out the diving standards followed by the resorts to ensure your safety while diving. Some resorts may be located such that it is naturally more appropriate for divers. These resorts may offer diving packages and you can choose as per your budget and experience in diving. Some people look for resorts depending on the range of entertainment and other interesting activities offered by them.

Packages

Check out the packages offered by various resorts in Maldives. Look for a package that is best suitable for you as per the factors mentioned above. Some resorts may be pricier than several other options and, in some resorts, food and drinks may be on the higher side. Thus, it is important to check out the package carefully and choose the one that fits in your budget and offers an all-inclusive package.

Visitor Friendly Resorts

When looking for a suitable resort to stay in the Maldives, check out if the resort is known to cater only to people from specific nationalities like Japanese, German or Italian. This may pose a problem for people from other nationalities and find it difficult to mingle with the crowd.

Type of Accommodation

Next, consider the type of accommodation and decide which option is the right option for you. You will find accommodation choices like a water villa or a standard villa, cottages and more. Water villas are truly spectacular though a little pricey but allow guests to see the marine life in all its glory at close quarters.

Thus, considering all these factors can help you streamline your search for a perfect resort when visiting this island country. Book your digs in advance and get set ready to have an enjoyable time vacationing here.

Have your hearts’ fill of nature with Maldives tourismhttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/have-your-hearts-fill-of-nature-with-maldives-tourism2020-06-12T15:18:39.000Z2020-06-12T15:18:39.000ZSameer Sharmahttps://tripatini.com/members/SameerSharma612

Located on the Arabian Sea, Maldives is one of the smallest nations of the world and yet a haven for tourists from all over the globe. When visiting this awe-inspiring destination, be ready to soak in beautiful sights like transparent blue lagoons, bright sun, house reefs with shoals of fish, white sandy beaches, blue skies and azure blue waters stretching out to miles and miles long distance.

There are several surprises that you may not be familiar with. This South Asian Island Nation is made up of approximately 1000 small islands that are spread across the ocean like small green dots on vibrant blue background. There are 1, 190 islands that are sprinkled over turquoise blue waters of the Indian Ocean. It is located in deep south to Sri Lanka and India. Some of the islands in the Maldives are very small and some are uninhabited till date. Some islands have just a resort or hotel on them.

Reaching the Maldives is not challenging at all. After reaching Male the capital city of this island country, people can either take a plane or a boat to the island where they have booked their resort. There are 25 atolls of island collections in the Maldives but only 200 islands are inhabited out of so many islands. There are fishing and farming villages that attracts tourists who wish to find out more about the way of life led by permanent population residing here. Before that, I had only been to Saudi Arabia and a few parts of the country where I live.

Even though I knew I hate lying around on a beach with my clothes off or surfing on the waves because I was already tanned enough and I had no such skills like surfing.

Even though we went to Maldives anyway. In this blog, I will tell you a few of my experiences while traveling to this country.

1. Traveling to the Maldives is Cheaper than You Think

Maldives is a cheaper alternative to any other beaches you might want to visit in either South American countries or the North.

But it can only be cheaper if you manage to book everything by yourself without a need for support from travel agents.

I was stupid not to book my travel trip on my own and that was a mistake on my part. When I went there, everything was super easy. Each of the hotels has its own website or you can make a reservation through Booking.com.

Since Maldives is made up of different islands and you would have to choose your own, so the only thing you will need to keep in mind is to book a speed boat that will take you across that Island.

2. It Requires No VISA

In the beginning, why I said it was the most cheaper alternative is because it has a free VISA entry (on arrival). That means it does not require any kind of fees nor pre-booking.

So you just need to pay for your airline tickets, hotels, food, and all but not for VISA.

3. Dual Currency

I stayed in a Maasfushi Island which has more hotels and crowds than any other island. Like everyone else, I was also skeptic of whether I should exchange for the local currency or should I keep dollars at hand.

Unfortunately, I could not find any Maldives Rufiyaa in my country's airport so I had to keep dollars.

So there were two currencies at work. The Maldives Rufiyaa and the other is US Dollars. But as I should have known, everything that I buy from US Dollars would eventually be MUCH expensive than I buy from a Maldives local currency.

So, whatever you do, get your money exchanged or you'd eventually be paying much higher.

4. Do Stay 1 Day on a Resort

I was unfortunate not to have spent any day on a Resort. I was there for 5 days staying in a hotel but never had the chance to go to a resort.

Resorts are expensive, but it gives you experiences of a lifetime with extraordinary beauty. It may cost you $300 to $1,500 for a single day.

But I regret it now. I should have spent a night or even a day at a nearby resort.

5. Never Let your Online Security for Granted

In Maldives, Hotels have their own Wi-Fi services. Being a privacy expert too, I know how easy it is to hack your phone or your system when you are connected to public Wi-Fi.

These hackers can easily get hold of your personal information, banking details, and so much more.

That is why I always recommend using a VPN such as NordVPN before you travel to any country.

I didn't have a bad experience or any of that sort, but it is safe to be protected online at all times. It is better to be safe than sorry.

So, that was my experience visiting Maldives. I hope it helps you along the way and let you make better and sound decisions.

Beat the heat in Maldives by staying with the best resort in Maldiveshttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/beat-the-heat-in-maldives-by-staying-with-the-best-resort-in2020-06-12T14:47:55.000Z2020-06-12T14:47:55.000ZSameer Sharmahttps://tripatini.com/members/SameerSharma612

Maldives is the tiniest of all countries in Asia with 1190 coral islands that are low-lying and distributed into 26 atolls. The hot spring or seawater starts off at 2000 meter or 6562 ft from beneath the ground. Since the earth is heated by its own natural forces, the water at this depth is at a temperature of 240°Cor 464°F with 36 times the pressure on the surface of the earth.

As the hot water rises, it comes in contact with cooling magmatic intrusions and locks within itself earth’s rare minerals. This results in this unique natural source which is known for its healing powers. Every year thousands of global tourists visit here to have a bath here.

Activities

Geothermal steam bath

Sauna

Waterfalls

Relaxing area

Lagoon Bar

Silica mud bath

Guided Tour

Dining options

LAVA RestaurantLa carte

Lunch Menu

Lunch buffets

Wine & drinks

360° view of LAVA

LAVA Bar

Wild Game Buffet

Holiday buffet

Places to visit and experience near Blue Lagoon

Vatnajökull National Park

Snæfellsjökull National Park

The dramatic Iceland landscapes

Amazing glaciers, flora and fauna

Thingvellir

How to reach

The Blue Lagoon Hot Springs is just about a 45 minutes drive from the Reykjavik City centre. You can observe the falls and the beautiful surrounging landscapes from all directions, and of course walk down the track behind it - a truly mind-blowing site to watch the river fall from the cliffs.

From Keflavik International Airport, it's a drive of a bit over two hours toward the south coast.
The Maldives are a string of pearls posing as islands floating gracefully over the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea, 1192 nuggets—1000 of them unpopulated—not simply strewn higgeldy-piggledy atoll, but arranged in a double helix and organized into garlands and necklaces and defined by water level as footprints over the ocean surface, any higher the water and they cease to exist as a landmass, demoted like Pluto by science, thereafter to live their life as a mere underwater ridge threatening ships and subs, number three on the international extinction list in fact highest point not much higher than an NBA starting center...

The Maldives must sound like a dream to anyone in Central Asia: Muslims—or me—high up on the hills in the 'stans or the Kush on the steppes in the bush—cold barren steps to righteousness rewards guaranteed only in heaven and I'd hedge my bets on that if I were you, where virgins must be bound and chained to maintain ritual purity and you need sheesha, shawarma and shish-kebabs to stay warm, curries lacking punch and pungency for lack of spices, so might as well forget them altogether, get your bellyful of gusto from a goat slowly roasting over charcoal and incense...

The Maldives must have been the Islamic paradigm for paradise, pristine waters warm and wonderful, perfectly azure going to like them, gently throbbing surf and all the fish you can eat, French fries and hush-puppies optional, palms gently swaying coconuts bananas and mango for the picking, and a handsome gentle populace, smiles free and willing and a warm island welcome for the tired weary traveler, like Ibn Battutah, the Muslim Marco Polo, way back in the 1300's, he and his four local wives, not counting slaves, blogging it for the future and trying to civilize the natives, trying to get the women to wear clothes...

That's no problem today boohoo many wearing full burqa head to toe, others toeing the line of holy writ with fashion scarves and pseudo-veils still others naked-faced and unafraid sucking face in parks with boyfriends just like back home, but some even wearing full burqa in the surf as custom permits if hubby requires it rules and regulations getting tougher all the time...
