From my first contact to managing changes occurring during the last moments of our tour, Miss Candy was quick, competent, professional and truly intent on making us happy. She did. Our ATA Vietnam caving/home stay tour was absolutely fabulous.

Son Doong Cave

My husband and I were scheduled to do the Son Doong cave tour. However, the day before we were scheduled to go on the jungle trek to the cave, the rivers flooded, became impassible and our planned trip was washed away. Not a problem! Within a couple of hours, Miss Candy had 3 new alternative plans for us - one including a refund which I am so glad we did not choose.

En Cave

We chose the trip that included a driver, English speaking guide, river boat trip, visit to En Cave, a 2-night Chap Lay homestay and a 7 kilometer hike into Paradise Cave, the longest dry cave in the world.

ABOUT MISS CANDY - Use her to plan your trip. It will work out.

ABOUT THE CHAP LAY HOMESTAY - We stayed in a guest house behind our host's home in the middle of a field outside a small Vietnamese village. We had a private toilet and shower, no hot water, slightly uncomfortable in January but would not be a problem at any other time of the year. The hostess and daughter-in-law cooked our meals (8-10 delicious food choices) over an open fire in a thatched roof kitchen and they let me watch and help. Even though we didn't speak the same language, we 3 women were still able to communicate and share the important details of our lives.

The men, through the interpreter, sat on the porch and talked. During the meals, when we were all together, our hosts were warm, open and gracious enough to answer all of our questions.
The Chap Lay setting was beautiful and peaceful. The 9am to 3pm trek took us through tiny spaces to gigantic cathedral-sized caverns. Using only headlamps, I think we saw and touched every type of cave formation possible. Words are inadequate to describe the awesome beauty of this cave tour. It was a stunning experience, one that I will never, ever forget.

ABOUT THE DRIVER AND GUIDE - They were at our service. If we said, "go over there", they went over there. If we said, "we would rather do this than do that", we did. Our wishes took priority over the ATA schedule, which is just how a private tour should be. Our interpreter was great. During conversations with others, his personality was completely in the background. But when asked for his thoughts and while explaining the history, he was charming and knowledgeable.

SUMMARY - My husband and I dislike group tours and wouldn't do one, but we also are well-travelled enough to know when to hire the experts who can make our trip a 5-Star event. Active Travel Asia were the experts we needed in Vietnam. However, it’s paradoxical that few visitors know the site. The Swallow Cave is 1.645 m long and has three mouths. All of these make the cave different from other well-known caves in the country.

Khám phá Sơn Đoònghttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/kh-m-ph-s-n-o-ng2013-12-27T01:53:39.000Z2013-12-27T01:53:39.000ZPham Quang Donghttps://tripatini.com/members/PhamQuangDong

Sơn Đoòng nằm tại xã Sơn Trạch huyện Bố Trạch tỉnh Quảng Bình. The God (Parmeshwar) has three deities who carry on the world .This is Known as Holy Trinity. Brahma- the creator, Vishnu - the perpetuator of life and Shiva (Mahesh) -the purifier and perpetuator of good and destroyer of evil. Rig Veda refer Shiva as Rudra as in its following verse. "We Worship Tryambaka (Rudra), Who spread Fragrance and Increases Nourishment, May He release me ,like the cucumber from its stem , From Mortal Life , But not From Immorality . "(Rig Veda Mandal VII Sukta 59 and Mantra 12).

The Yajurveda describes Shiva as ascetic warrior Whose robe is of Deer Skin and He carries Trishul. According to the verse Satyam, Shivam ,Sundaram ,the life is described as having three facets Truth (Satyam), Good (Shivam) and the Beautiful (Sundaram).

Shiva is a living God. The most Sacred and ancient books of India, the Rig Veda narrates His presence in the hymns. Vedic myths, rituals and even astronomy testifies to His existence from the dawn of time .The Mohindaro and Harapa findings confirm Shiva worship in the ancient India. According to the older scriptures, He has three places of His residence. One is Kailash Parvat another is Lohit Giri under which Brahamputra flows and third is Muzwan Parvat .

A Jewel of a Pousada in Diamantina Minas Gerais Brazilhttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/a-jewel-of-a-pousada-in2010-03-20T14:00:00.000Z2010-03-20T14:00:00.000ZAngela Whitworthhttps://tripatini.com/members/AngelaWhitworth

I have just spent a couple of days in the fascinating colonial town of Diamantina which is on the diamond circuit of the gold route that runs from Diamantina to Ouro Preto and then on to Paraty and Rio de Janeiro. Set amongst rolling hills with lush vegetation and tropical flowers and plants, Diamantina is a fascinating city with plenty to do for a two or three day stay. Visiting the waterfalls and seeing the cave paintings en route to the hamlet of Biribiri which was one of the main producers of cashmere in the not too distant past, was a real treat.

My accommodation which was recommended by Alison at Hidden Pousadas Brazil is a jewel of a pousada dating back to the mid 19th Century and belonging to the same family for 4 generations. Right in the historical centre of town and lovingly refurbished and restored by the owners with furnishings, pictures and objets d'art belonging to the family. There is even a small museum and chapel which the owners are happy to show any guest who is interested. Guests are warmly welcomed and given lots of advice on where to go and what to see. Bedrooms are simple but comfortably furnished with highly polished wooden floors, antique furniture, all belonging to the family, en suite shower rooms and comfortable beds (the sheets are excellent quality). Breakfast is served in the open courtyard on the lower floor and is a spread of local fare with fresh bread, local cakes and pastries, fresh fruit, juices, teas and coffees, cheeses and cold meats. If you fancy an egg for breakfast you just have to ask. The library on the first floor where I am writing this looks out over the nearby hills towards the slave road, that was built by slaves through the mountains to aid the movement of precious stones from the outlying areas back to Diamantina.

The town itself has a great buzz, with many bars and restaurants catering for a wide variety of tastes and economy. Being a university town there are lots of young people hanging out and the general feeling is very relaxed and friendly. The cobbles are enormous which can make walking a bit tricky so this is not the place to come if you have any walking difficulty but otherwise it is all part of the fun. There is a museum, numerous churches, the old covered market which has music and local food on a Friday and Saturday night and local art shops. A good idea is to contact Ana Paula from the travel agency Ventura Falci who will put together an excellent itinerary to suit your requirements.

The nearest international airport is Belo Horizonte, a four hour drive from Diamantina but hiring a car is no trouble (just check the aircon is working) and the road is fine. A cheaper option is to take the bus which takes about 5 hours.
