However, the dialogue surrounding the acceptance of this integral facet of society has been slow to change. According to a survey conducted by the University of São Paulo, almost 10 percent of Brazilian males identify as gay or bisexual, with lesbians & bisexual women comprising 6 percent of the population. And with over 60,000 gay couples in all of Brazil, the strength of the community is growing!

Gay marriage has been legal in Brazil since 2013, and the Supreme Court had ruled even earlier, in 2010, same-sex coupes could adopt. Every year, more and more of these couples are finding their voice and seeking out ways to represent and celebrate themselves. The movement is not radical, but rather is a peaceful dialogue about the natural right to be considered as equal, not just politically but socially. Today in Rio de Janeiro, there are two women helping to spearhead a new gay Brazil movement. Partners in life and in business, Tata Barreto and Renata Ferrer have begun Gataria Photography to feed the need from this emerging market of Brazilian gay weddings.

New Movement in the Brazilian Gay Community in Rio De Janeiro

Gataria is the first Brazilian gay photography studio with an emphasis on the LGBTQ community. Founders Tata and Renata want to help give a voice to the long silenced gay Brazil community, and believe that the photograph is a key into local social culture. The truth of the photo can only be exposed when subjects are photographed with empathy.

Every form of love is worth a click of the camera. But in Brazil, there is little positive representation of gay couples engaging in sincere affection. The kiss. Holding hands. An embrace. The exchange of a loving glance. All is equally as beautiful as it is with any other couple, but Gataria is endeavoring to make it mainstream.

The idea behind Gataria is to offer Rio society an inside glimpse into one of their own communities, showcasing an important aspect of local lifestyle and culture. The photos are done by the Brazilian Gay and Lesbian Community for that same community, as well as by that community for the rest of Brazilian society. In addition to being photographers, the two are human-rights activists, with a mission to create a visible representation that is the instrument to accurately portray the LGBTQ community and one day lead to its full acceptance.

Gataria’s Objectives

To empathetically document the various types of non-nuclear families.

To increase the positive visibility and help empower the Brazilian gay and lesbian community.

To combat homophobia.

To fight against racism, intolerance, and violence motivated by hateful speech.

And while Gataria is equally happy photographing formerly traditional weddings with a male and female, there is something special that occurs with a homosexual occasion. Tata and Renata gave the following example to highlight the value of their work. “Imagine that you are going to photograph an Indian wedding, something from a very different culture than your own. It is highly likely that you will loose some detail from not fully understanding this world. It is exactly that which happens with the LGBTQ culture. There are various nuances that a straight photographer might accidentally miss. This is what makes the difference. Our personal lives create an empathy that ends up reflecting in the images.” In a country, where many gay Brazilian couples have not come out to their family and friends, there can also be a greater deal of a comfort being photographed by members of their own community.

Supporting the Gay Community in Rio de Janeiro

Among Brazil's gay community, Gataria is quickly becoming a household name. But even if you don't make it for the world's biggest beer bash, Munich is still one of Europe's most attractive and fun cities, where autumn is lovely and even winter is a winner, especially during its world-famous Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas market) November 26 through December 24 - magical enough to get even a jaded Grinch like me grinning. And get this — Muc’s got the most singles of any German burg. It’s funny, too, because lederhosen-wearing Bavarian men may've been the original leather daddies, but Bavaria, the south German region of which this city's the capital, is a notoriously conservative bit of business run by right-wing Christian Democrats who make the country’s prime minister of their same party, Angela Merkel, look like Hanoi Jane. On a tour of the nearby town of Freising, the guide earnestly assured me that “most Bavarians are very Catholic, and revere the Virgin Mary,” just before rattling off the Freising-related history of Benny Rats—er, Pope Benedict XVI—who was bishop here for a bunch of years (though all is not lost—in the restaurant bathroom in the tiny lakeside town of Prien I did come across a condom machine next to another that sold “sex gags” at 2€ a pop).

A Quaint Yet Progressive, Gay-Friendly Island in Bavaria

Now, I'm something of a fan of European pop, and an oldie favorite is a 1979 tune from Spain's Miguel Bosé called Noche Blanca en Munich (White Night in Munich), essentially recounting a gay-bar pickup. Now, a quarter century later, when it comes to gay travel, Munich rocks - and has even turned downright progressive (the Social Democrats have long run city hall, currently along with the Greens and the Pink List — a queer party, would you believe it?), as well as jam-packed with stuff to do both day and night. The old town’s Brothers Grimm architecture, oom-pah-pah beer halls and of course the huge, famous glockenspiel clock in the old town hall (right) still charm the tourists, and apart from a plethora of churches and palaces, there are also some super museums here; two of the more recent additions are the very interesting Jüdisches Museum (Jewish museum), next to the handsome newish synagogue, and BMW World, a slick, interactive ode to one of Bavaria’s most famous exports. I’m just sorry that on my last trip I never made it to the potato museum, and that they recently put a lid on the chamberpot museum after its owner died under mysterious circumstances. But sometimes, that’s just the way the pretzel crumbles.

This is a party-hearty town, too, and the fun starts even before noon at the many, many, many beer gardens and halls. For example, check out the world-famous Hofbräuhaus (sure, it’s touristy, but you’ll still spot Bavarians in folk costume who come in from the boonies to lift a few with their Freunden) and the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower, left), in a park called the Englischer Garten (English Garden)—there actually is a big ol’ wood tower there, kinda-sorta pagoda-ish, where the oompah band serenades the drinkers. Joints like these can actually be pretty good for meeting people, because everybody’s sitting at long tables and as the suds flow, they can get pretty hopped up, singingö and swaying like nobody’s business.

And by the way, after (maybe better make that before) a brewski at the the Chinese Tower, stop and get an eyeful at a nearby meadow in the English Garden where some locals still like to come to catch a spot of solar skinny dipping (one local friend of mine says, “the moment there’s one ray of sun around here, zip-zip, off come the clothes). Here nudity’s absolutely, refreshingly no big deal at all—you see tits and asses on TV all the time, and FKK (Freikoörperkultur, or “free body culture”) has more followers than a bitch in heat. On the other hand, it’s possible overdo it; not long ago, an American was fined 200€ for casually strolling around the center of Nuremburg (another Bavarian city) with his bratwurst hanging out just ’cause he spottted people doing it in some park.

Sex Very Much on the Menu

But for the most part, this laid-back attitude pretty much extends to sex, too. One of Germany’s household names is Beate Uhse, a widowed ex-Luftwaffe pilot (no joke) who in the 40’s and 50’s pedaled her bike through the postwar ruins of Flensburg selling marital aids (I like to think of her as the Fuckerware Lady). She leveraged that into today’s high-profile erotica retail empire, including shops like the fancy one on Munich’s downtown Sedlingerstrasse, whose merch ranges from mild (scented massage oils) to wild (pissing porn, bondage gear, and oh so much more); there's even a shop at the airport, fer cryin' out loud (right). Specifically gay shops, BTW, include SpeXter and Bruno’s.

Both sex and partying really take off here after dark, though. Some of my non-Bavarian friends in Munich complain that the locals have a definite superiority complex over other Germans, but whatever—they’re certainly fun to hang with and pick up, and a lot of them do speak a certain amount of English (still, I guarantee you’ll still be the life of the party if you whip out our Gay Translator phrasebook). Things are definitely way out of the Schrank here — as I mentioned, the gay Rosa Liste party helps run city hall, and a fag and a pair of dykes from different parties has been helping keep things tasteful on the city council.

The “scene” is centered around Gärtnerplatz, a square anchoring a low-slung area several blocks south of the medieval city center (sometimes called the Gärtnerplatzviertel or Glockenbachviertel). Besides a cultural center, there are bars and clubs catering to everything from twinks to bears to leather to trendoids (more than a few still with darkrooms), and I found a kind of epicenter to be a café/bar/Internet point called Kr@ftAkt (Thalkirchnerstrasse 11), where a lot of people start out their evenings. You’ve got at least three bath houses, the biggest and best of which is located right in a great, modern hotel and bar/restaurant complex called the Deutsche Eiche (Reichenbachstrasse 13; façade left, sauna right). Actually, the Eiche not only totally rocks, but it's also historic, dating back to 1864—and as of the 1950’s it became a gay/boho hangout attracting the likes of filmmaker Rainer Fassbinder and Queen rocker Freddie Mercury. It was developed into what it is today by Dietmar Holfzapfel, a jolly ex-teacher who was the first local Schwule (look it up in The Gay Translator) to get married to his partner when such things became legal in Germany in 2002. And BTW, if you’d rather line up a date or two ahead of time, the best site is probably GayRomeo.com , run out of Amsterdam but with more than 1,800 members in Munich (that’s a lotta wurst) and the Brit-based Gaydar.com. Another cool bit of business not to miss if you’re here in the summer is a trip to Flaucher island in the Isar River, on whose north end the boys go to strip down and lie around on a pebbly “beach.” If you really want to experience it all in full roar, make your reservations now to be here next July for the local Gay Pride hootenanny, Christopher Street Day, or in September (this year, the 23rd) for the Rosa Wiesn (gay Oktoberfest, top and below right).

Munich Hotels, Munich Restaurants, Munich Nightlife

Hotel-wise, for fag-friendly, convenient to the scene, and higher-end, after the Deutsche Eiche I really like the minimalist-sleek, 54-room Hotel Advokat (Baaderstrasse 1) and the mix of old and new at the 38-room Hotel Olympic (Hans-Sachs-Strasse 4). Several blocks away, and also near the downtown shopping district, the 70-unit Carat-Hotel München (Lindwurmstrasse 13,) is another good choice. And a bit farther afield (but still an easy hop via Munich’s great subway, the S-Bahn) the 106-room K+K Hotel am Harras (Albert-Rosshaupter-Strasse 4) and Hotel Nymphenburg (Nymphenburger Strasse 141), with 44 sometimes funkily painted rooms, are also welcoming.

For more budget-priced digs, try the convenient and gemütlich Pension Seibel (Reichenbachstasse 8). If you’re not stuck on “full-service” and/or are looking to drop as little as $40-$50 nightly, you’ll also get to live a little bit more like a native (not to mention with a tad more, ahem, privacy) by booking your own apartment or a room (B&B-style) in someone else’s, through a pair of gay-run agencies, Enjoy Bed & Breakfast and Peter Harke’s Gay Tourist Office Munich, which also provides tours and other services.

Eating and drinking in Munich, meanwhile, has gone way beyond schnitzel, wurst, and Weizebier in recent years. On the schwule culinary front, top choices include the excellent traditional German/international menu at the Deutsche Eiche, the panini and updated German fare at Café Selig (Hans-Sachs-Strasse 3, 23.88.88.78), the lighter, contemporary fare at Kr@ftakt.

There are too many bars and clubs to go into in detail, but favorites worth noting start with the mod café-loungey Selig (see above); the friendly, more old-fashioned scene across the street at Nil (Hans-Sachs-Strasse 2); the fun, campy atmosphere (but plenty of hotties, too, I promise) at the inimitable classic Prosecco (Theklastrasse 1, right); and the edgier, harder-core vibe at Bau (Mullerstrasse 41). The ladies will want to check out Café Glück (Palmstrasse 4), while the big late-night boogie spot for both boyz and girlz is the basement New York Club (Sonnenstrasse 25). Located only 120 miles north east from Rio de Janeiro, the small peninsula of Armacao de Buzios is becoming renowned as the up and coming gay-friendly resort destination in Brazil. The gay-owned accommodations and resorts of Chez Wadi and Our House provide the perfect gay places to stay and after a hot day on the beaches the nightlife sizzles with gourmet dining plus great nightclubs.

An important part of every vacation is the question of where to dine and this is where Buzios really excels. Throughout the peninsula, in the central town, on the beaches, or amidst the small villages, are great dining options. Whether you enjoy dining right on the beach, or on the boardwalk with a view of the ocean, or a patio table in town for people watching, then Buzios can satisfy your needs. Of course, fresh seafood is a local specialty and readily available on almost every menu is the Catch of the Day.

During my recent visit to Buzios I enjoyed several different restaurants around the peninsula and I have compiled a list of some of my personal favorites, each with different menu offerings. However, the most fun part of your vacation in Buzios will be discovering your own list of special places as you experience for yourself the vast selection of dining spots. Either way you won't be disappointed by the gourmet dining available here.

Located where all the action is and in the heart of Buzios Centro town are the following suggestions:

Boom

Rua Manoel Turibio de Farrias, 110 Tel: 2623 6254

One of the great dining traditions in Brazil is the “Buffet por Kilo”where you pay for your meal by the weight of the food on your plate. This is an excellent way to satisfy your appetite without ordering too much food and Boom offers an upscale version of this popular concept. The buffet includes hot and cold selections of local specialities, salads, fruits, or vegetables. Plus there is a sushi option, a selection of pizzas, and a parilla for those who would like some grilled meats. Amazingly the hot dishes remain hot and the salads remain fresh---not always true of buffet meals--- due to careful planning by the chef and kitchen staff. The atmosphere is cool and relaxed with tables outdoors for those who want enjoy the bustle of the pedestrian street. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner to satisfy any sized appetite or culinary tastes at reasonable prices.

Chez Michou

Av. This open air cafe is considered to be the soul of Buzios and is open all day and most of the night in a central location where the night-time party crowd loves to hang out. The menu offers the largest selection of crepes which I have ever seen and the prices are very affordable but the quality is first class. By night the brassy music, the open-air relaxed environment, and great food is conducive to a great party-time. There is always a large crowd here and it is renowned throughout the peninsula for a fun time and great crepes.

Patio Havana

Rua das Pedras, 101 Tel: 2623 2169

Built in 1998 with stunning ocean views, here you will find a taste of Cuba with amazing multi-level architecture and unique design features. Last year the four day event was attended by almost 83,000 people and approximately 40% of these were travel industry professionals. With the recent increases in the number of international visitors to Argentina it is anticipated that this year's 15th Anniversary show will be even bigger than in prior years. With over 250 exhibitors from around South America and other parts of the globe, seminars, presentations, and more this is perhaps the largest gathering of travel industry representatives in South America. However, this year a new component has been added called The Pink Corner which is an exclusive area for LGBT travel businesses to promote their services and communicate the importance of the gay and lesbian sector of the traveling public.

This new feature Pink Corner is the first initiative of the CCGLAR (Cámara de Comercio Gay Lésbica Argentina)---which is the new Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in Argentina---in collaboration with The Argentina Ministry of Tourism.

Pablo De Luca & Gustavo Noguera founders of CCGLAR and owners of GMAPS360 and Gnetwork360 began working on this project earlier this year long before same-sex marriages in Argentina became legal in July 2010, but only just received the go-ahead after the new law was enacted. These local travel businesses and tour operators demonstrated the diversity of services which Argentina already offers to the LGBT traveler visiting this vast country. The city is nestled in a gentle twist of the mighty Paraná River about 300 km northwest of the city of Buenos Aires. Due to this close proximity to the Capital City, it is often overlooked as a potential gay vacation destination by first time LGBT travelers to Argentina.

However, Rosario freely displays its natural ‘water-world’ of the Upper Delta with its magic islands covered by lush vegetation and the many desirable sandy beaches. In the city proper there are a number of museums, a curious blend of Spanish and Italian architecture, lovely parks harboring beautiful statues and monuments. The rainbow adorned LGBT Paseo de la Diversidad walk and monument is proudly located on the river boardwalk---located between Corrientes and Paraguay streets---for all to see. There are numerous beaches along the river front, restaurants with international cuisine, and steakhouses where you can sample the renowned Argentine beef cooked on a parilla, or taste the local gourmet speciality---fresh river fish.

Vacation activities abound for the LGBT traveler to enjoy in Rosario. Night life is exciting with several gay discos---mostly open only on weekends--- gay-friendly bars, sidewalk cafes, and restaurants in a balmy, romantic atmosphere.

The local gay map and guide De Ambiente is an excellent source of Rosario LGBT information which is updated and published four times per year. It is readily available around town including the Official City Tourism Information Centers---another sign of how gay-friendly this city really is!

You know that you have arrived at a gay-friendly Hotel when the De Ambiente is displayed prominently in the hotel lobby along with other tourist information brochures. Such is the case with The Plaza del Sol Hotel in the heart of downtown Rosario where the local gay guide is readily available in the foyer. The welcoming gay-friendly staff are also extremely helpful and it is nearby all the historic attractions, including the Paseo de la Diversidad, Independence Park Theatre, and El Círculo Opera House, plus numerous gay-friendly cafes, bars, and clubs.

A short City Bus ride---costing less than two dollars---on the special “de la Costa” bus route will take you from downtown to the extensive sandy beaches of La Florida neighbourhood. Here sun worshippers gather around the umbrellas, beach volleyball games are everywhere, outdoor bars and cafes are dotted along the shore, nautical sports and bathers catch the eye. Were it not for the calm river and the lush islands in the background, it would seem akin to a tropical ocean resort beach.

For relaxation, you can take a leisurely cruise on the Paraná River and thread your way through a maze of vegetation-rich islands in the delta or, if you are more adventure-minded, paddle a kayak across to one of the islands. Many tourists and locals alike ride bicycles or horses around the parks.

Rosario is the city where General Manuel Belgrano, one of Argentina’s most important forefathers, designed the country’s flag. One of the most popular attractions in the city is the impressive Flag Monument placed in the Parque Nacional de la Bandera (National Flag Park). There is also the possibility of heading to the top of the monument's tower for a great view of the city and river valley.

The history of LGBT Rosario is extensive and fascinating. According to local historian and long time Rosario resident Carlos Italiano---writer, history and Italian teacher---even during the oppressive dictatorships and religious influences the gay community in Rosario continued to thrive in secret. Some of their clandestine meeting places still exist today like the Hotel Savoy lobby bar. Although it has been renovated and upgraded it still seems to have a gay atmosphere inherited from those early days. Even Ricky Martin chose this hotel for his gay home-away-from-home when he visited Rosario. What could establish a gay reputation more than a “Royal Visit”?

In those early days the main gay cruising street was San Juan Street dating back about forty-five years when there were no bars or clubs in which the LGBT community could gather and no internet for instant hook-ups. Coincidentally, the gay-friendly Plaza del Sol hotel is located on this street today.

The renowned El Cairo Cafe was also a gathering place for the gay community along with local famous artists and authors. Today the Cafe has undergone a major restoration and is still a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike.

The journey from Buenos Aires by bus, train, or rental car takes about three hours. It is well worth a side trip to Rosario for LGBT city life with some great opportunities for a change of pace and some relaxation during a gay vacation to Argentina.

With such a rich LGBT history, the Paseo de Diversidad, and a thriving LGBT community, it is no wonder that Rosario is recognized as an extremely gay-friendly major city in Argentina.

Contact De Ambiente Gay Guide:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/dambiente

Contact Plaza del Sol Hotel:
http://www.hotelesplaza.com/hotelplazasol/hotelplazasol.html

Gay-Friendly Argentina?https://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/gay-friendly-argentina2012-02-10T16:27:37.000Z2012-02-10T16:27:37.000ZRoy Healehttps://tripatini.com/members/RoyHeale

Not surprisingly, when any country or territory takes the bold step to legalize same-sex marriages the business community subsequently decides it is acceptable to adopt a gay positive attitude. Such was the case in other countries like Canada following the 2005 Same-Sex Marriage Act and it now appears to be the circumstance in Argentina since the passing of the new law in 2010.

While this is a positive outcome of gay marriage there are also some precautions for the LGBT community to observe. What really defines “gay-friendly” and how genuine is this moniker versus just an opportunity to garner new business from the LGBT consumer?

In Argentina since 2010, the National Government Tourism offices known as INPROTUR (National Institute of Tourism Promotion) have been travelling the globe attending major travel trade shows promoting “gay-friendly” Argentina as a new destination for consideration by LGBT travellers. On many occasions the Minister of Tourism of the Nation, Sr. Enrique Meyer, has personally been accompanying the exhibit and attending the travel shows to demonstrate the country's serious commitment to the LGBT community.

But how gay-welcoming is Argentina really to the LGBT traveller visiting the country for the first time?

Before embarking on a month long journey around central Argentina, I decided to pay a visit to an official Tourism Office in downtown Buenos Aires, on Santa Fe Avenue, to garner some LGBT information for my travels.

Arriving at the office I was accompanied by two friends from Toronto, Canada who were visiting the country for the first time and also wanted some information about gay Buenos Aires.

The friendly Argentine Tourism employee proved to be extremely helpful when we asked for gay information---no shocked expression or anti-gay vibes---but this subject matter proved to be sadly lacking in availability.

Firstly, my friends were offered a two year old gay Buenos Aires city guide, but with the caution that they could only use this for a reference guide as it was their only copy and must remain in the Tourism Office. They were told they could go to the publisher's website for more up to date information. However, I happened to know that this website has been “under construction” for the past year. When I asked for LGBT information for Rosario, Cordoba, Mendoza, and other major Argentine tourist destinations I was told that none was available. Our endeavours spent heading to this important tourist resource center proved to be fruitless and a total waste of our time.

Although the employee was very gay-welcoming she clearly had not been armed with the appropriate tools and materials to welcome an LGBT traveller. She did not even mention we were a short ten minute walk away from the Pink Point Buenos Aires Information Center where we could find a wide range of LGBT information and services for all of Argentina.

Clearly this is a case where a Marketing 101 course is sadly lacking for INPROTUR to explain the importance of preparing the product and services before advertising these offerings to the LGBT consumer.

Argentina is a very gay-friendly travel destination with many diverse and spectacular attractions for the gay traveller, it was a great disappointment to see the official tourism services sadly lacking in information. The gay guide to Rosario, the gay-friendly map of Bariloche, the Gay Mendoza Wine Festival details, Gay Pride information, brochures of gay-owned and gay-friendly accommodations, and more should have been readily available for LGBT tourists.

If Argentina is going to promote a gay positive attitude internationally then much work needs to be done within the country to make this a genuine gay-friendly welcome.

Notwithstanding government initiatives---or lack thereof---my personal experiences in Argentina have proven this to be a very gay-friendly and gay-welcoming country.

Mr. Gay World: Anuncio de los Directores Continentales - Alfredo Ferreyra nombrado Director para America del Surhttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/mr-gay-world-anuncio-de-los-directores-continentales-alfredo2011-10-11T12:37:48.000Z2011-10-11T12:37:48.000Zalfredo ferreyrahttps://tripatini.com/members/alfredoferreyra

Mr. Gay World: Anuncio de los Directores Continentales

MGW: Continental Directors Announced

Comunicado de Prensa

For Immediate Release

Mr. Gay World announces Continental Directors

Mr. Gay World gets ready for fourth annual global competition with a
well rounded volunteer advisory board from all corners of the globe.

Sydney, Australia - October 11th, 2011 - Eric Butter, President of

Mr. Gay World announced today his new global volunteer advisory board

representing all corners of the globe. Argentina covers a vast mass of land; with Bolivia in its northern point, all the way through Patagonia, and bordered by Chile and the Andes Mountains in the west, Paraguay, Brazil and Uruguay in the northeast, and the Atlantic Ocean in the east.

The geographical location of Argentina gives the country an enormously varied climate and landscape, from high mountains to beaches and deserts to humid forests. Argentina has it all.

1. Buenos Aires: Argentines are very proud of their capital. Buenos Aires is a cosmopolitan city and perhaps the most European of all those in Latin America. The city’s café diners and tango bars quickly enchant visiting tourists. The population of Buenos Aires is almost 3 million strong, although the whole metropolitan area of Gran Buenos Aires accounts for almost 13 million people. Places not to miss include: La Boca, San Telmo and the main street called Avenida de Mayo.

2. Iguazú Falls: Located in Iguazú national park, in the Misiones province of the Arentina side and in Paraná State on the Brazil side. The falls consists of more than 275 separate waterfalls and cataracts of between 60-82 meters (200-269 ft) high. The breathtaking landscape is complete with the subtropical forest that sourrounds the falls, an essential stop.

3. If you are looking for places to climb or ski Argentina is home to a mountaineering challenge: Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Americas. If you prefer the snow, head towards Barlioche and Cerro Catedral Mountain, one of the best ski resorts in South America.

4. Wine: Wine tourism is becoming popular in Argentina and is a great way to discover the great quality of Argentine wine. One of the most popular wine tours is through the wineries of the Mendoza Province.

5. Beaches: in the summer, the Atlantic coasts of Argentina fill with both local and international tourists. A favorite destination is in the Province of Buenos Aires, in the city of Mar del Plata, where there is plenty to do during the summer months. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, remember that the Argentine summer coincides with the northern winter.

6. Calamuchita Valley: located in the Cordoba province, about 80 km (50 mi) from Córdoba city. It is famous for its lakes, where people flock to fish, diving, windsurf, etc. There are several areas tucked between coniferous forests that resemble urban landscapes of Central Europe.

7. La Pampa: is a vast grass plain that gets lost in the horizon and the most internationally famous province in Argentina. The plain varies in altitude and terrain, but the flattest parts are found near Buenos Aires and in the Cordoba Province.

8. The Train of the Clouds (El Tren de las Nubes): one of the highest trains in the world. It starts its journey in the Salta Province, through the Valle de Lerma and crosses the Quebrada del Toro before reaching the Puna. The train makes it way through 29 bridges, 21 tunnels, 13 viaducts, 2 spirals and 2 zigzags on its 15 hour, 424 km (270 mi) round trip from Salta to La Polvorilla.

9. Patagonia and the Glaciers Argentine glaciers attract thousands of tourists every year, especially the Perito Moreno glacier. This advancing glacier is 5 kilometers (3 mi) wide with an average height of 74 meters (240 ft) over Argentine Lake (Lago Argentino). Tourists are drawn to witness the force of Mother Nature as the ice breaks off in massive chunks and crashes into the lake.

10. Patagonia Whales: If you visit Argentina between May and December, you could witness one of the world's most amazing wildlife shows. Every year during these months, Right whales and Commerson’s dolphins mate off the coast of Patagonia; making it a great time to view these marine animals in their natural environment.

¡Enjoy Argentina!

This fabulous peninsula was discovered in the 1960s by French supermodel and movie actress Brigitte Bardot when during a vacation she was trying to escape from the paparazzi in Rio. Since that time Buzios has earned a reputation for its beautiful scenery, over twenty beaches, laid-back attitudes, and very gay-friendly welcome towards LGBT tourists. In fact the gay-owned and operated Our House Pousada is the only exclusively gay and lesbian resort in Brazil. Located just a ten minute walk from Ferradura Beach or the center of Buzios downtown, Our House is the perfect place for a very private, relaxing gay-getaway where you are guaranteed to spend your vacation in the company of like-minded travellers.

Our House co-owners Maria and Giselle purchased the property in 2002 and then spent three and a half years in a labour of love renovating and remodelling in order to create the perfect gay home-away-from-home for their future guests. They opened in December 2005 and immediately LGBT vacationers came flocking to their new gay resort paradise which is a hetero-friendly and adult---over 18---only venue.

Located on a hillside overlooking the ocean, all eight affordable rooms at Our House have an ocean view. Plus the large swimming pool is surrounded by lush tropical gardens, a BBQ where “If you bring it we will cook it”, and a rustic bar where breakfast is served daily from 8:00 to 10:00AM. This simple yet sophisticated gay resort is the perfect place to enjoy everything which Buzios offers to the LGBT tourist.

Lush Tropical Gardens

As members of international groups and movements promoting environmental policies, Our House strives to preserve the fragile Buzios eco-system. Owner Giselle is also a partner in a joint venture for Eco Bike Tours where you can bike and hike around the peninsula enjoying the natural environment, hidden beaches, and beautiful countryside. These eco-tours are offered free to registered guests of Our House with a reduced rental charge for the bikes. Tour groups are from four to twenty participants and the journeys range from easy to difficult terrain varying in length from just over two hours to full day trips. This is an excellent way to experience the diverse landscape of this small peninsula.

If you would like to plan a special holiday dinner at the resort then co-owner Maria is a professionally trained and qualified chef who will plan a gourmet menu for up to sixteen people. Enjoy the relaxing surroundings, a cocktail by the pool, followed by a gourmet dinner in the rustic cafe, and watch the sunset over the ocean from your room. With advance notice Marie can prepare all of this to suit your budget and tastes, but of course seafood is a local speciality!

The resort also includes a lounge area with comfortable sofas, a television, and computer work station for those who want to stay connected with the outside world.

So if you are planning a trip to Brazil make sure you spend some time at Our House, enjoy a totally gay escape from the world, frolic on the spectacular beaches, and in the warm ocean. It is a paradise which will reward every gay traveller with some great vacation memories.

For More Information Visit: www.ourhousebrazil.com

www.ecobiketour.com

www.visitebuzios.com

Mendoza's Gay Vendimia (Wine Festival) in Marchhttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/mendozas-gay-vendimia-wine2011-01-27T22:25:25.000Z2011-01-27T22:25:25.000ZRoy Healehttps://tripatini.com/members/RoyHeale

Mendoza Winery

Located in the Andes mountain range of Argentina, Mendoza is a year-round vacation destination. Renowned globally for being the capital of Argentina's wine making industry----especially the renowned Malbecs---Mendoza is also a center for skiing in the higher peaks during July, August, and September. The annual Vendimia wine festival in March is the highlight of the year with festivities for all ages and a special Gay Vendimia Festival.

With a population of approximately one million residents in the metro and surrounding areas, the gay businesses and nightlife are thriving. Mendoza has become the secondary vacation choice for LGBT travellers in Argentina after a visit to Buenos Aires.

Snow-Capped Andes Mountains

The grape harvest is celebrated annually throughout the month of March with the famous Mendoza Wine Festival. Festivities officially commence the first Saturday in March and occur throughout the region at all of the vineyards with special events in the city of Mendoza. But there is also the Fiesta de la Vendimia Gay which is held each year in conjunction with the main Festival. This is perhaps the most significant gay event in Argentina outside of the annual Buenos Aires Pride celebrations. It is supported by many sponsors and the local government making it an official part of the grape harvest festival. The crowning of the “Queen”---drag of course---is a much anticipated local event and a major theatrical production enjoyed by all of Mendoza's LGBT community and other citizens of this gay-friendly city.

Mendoza is the perfect place to call home while taking short excursions, day trips, or even overnight journeys to explore the numerous different vacation activities in this diverse region. Filled with tree-lined avenues, beautiful plazas, historic architecture, and artisan markets, Mendoza offers a relaxed pace of life in a bustling urban environment. The heart of the city pulses in the main square called Plaza Independencia, while the Parque San Martin offers a multitude of relaxing outdoor activities in a lush green environment. The Area Fundacional is a trip back in time to the city's early roots of the settlement days.

In the heart of downtown is the gay-owned and operated DeptosMendoza apartment rentals of Modigliani Art & Design Suites and Dot Suites. Renting an apartment in Mendoza is the best way to enjoy the local scene. Theses suites are perfect for any vacation or business trip to Mendoza with a large variety of sizes and styles available. The English speaking staff are friendly and helpful with any travel needs or excursions. The apartments are large, spacious, luxuriously furnished, with designer appeal. The central location is very convenient for all activities in Mendoza with apartments priced to suit any travel budget.

Modigliani Art & Design Suites

The dry desert-like climate almost guarantees hot sunny days for enjoying outdoor activities coupled with warm nights where outdoor dining is the perfect end to a high-altitude day. Residents of Mendoza observe the very civilized custom of afternoon siestas and most businesses are closed from 1PM to 4PM with the exception of some restaurants.

After a hot sunny day the gay Alternative Spa can offer relaxation and stress relief. It is open from 3PM to 11PM offering whirlpool, sauna, lockers, solarium, relaxing areas and a bar to unwind and mingle. Situated in the downtown core, this is a very popular place for locals to hang out and mix with out-of- town visitors.

Two gay-friendly Resto-Bars---348 and Casa 3---are located on San Lorenzo Street and very popular with the gay community. But the Aristides Villanueva is the major street for dining out. Here you will find a festive atmosphere with patios full of revelers indulging themselves with every International culinary delight imaginable. Plus, of course, the renowned Argentine Parillas, where beef is a gourmet experience especially when accompanied by a local Mendoza vintage red wine. All at prices lower than almost any other major vacation destination in the world today!

Dining out is a major part of Mendoza's nightlife and be sure to try something unique in Mendoza and very gay at Los Chocos restaurant. It's a gay-owned and operated restaurant serving a gourmet six or eight course dinner in a private home, similar to the Paladares in Havana, Cuba. Special local Mendoza meats and produce are complemented with perfect Malbec wines. Dining with wonderful company and amazingly creative gourmet dishes is a holiday treat, and all for only US$60 per person. Incredible! This gourmet restaurant is in the home of Martin the Chef and his partner Martin who assists with the entire dinner. It's located in the heart of downtown, on the 5th floor of a classic residential apartment building. You can have the whole place to yourself, giving it a familiar and comfortable feel. Reservations are essential as each dinner can only accommodate up to eight guests.

Outdoor Patio Dining

After dinner is the perfect time for a visit to a local gay bar and conclude a fun-filled day. On Wednesdays La Reserva-Queen pub offers a fun Drag Show. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays Estacion Miro is the hot gay nightclub for partying until dawn. Both are located in the heart of downtown Mendoza just waiting to entertain you until dawn, or perhaps even later.

So whether it is during the Vendimia Festival or at any other time of the year, make sure you include gay-friendly Mendoza in your itinerary for a gay vacation in Argentina.

For More Information Visit: www.deptosmendoza.com.ar

www.mendoza-gay.com.ar

Eco-Friendly Florianopolis, Brazilhttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/ecofriendly-florianopolis2011-01-04T00:11:39.000Z2011-01-04T00:11:39.000ZRoy Healehttps://tripatini.com/members/RoyHeale

The Beach at Pantano do Sul, Florianopolis, Brazil

By Roy Heale

On my second visit to Florianopolis I was fortunate enough to be hosted by local experts Marta Dalla Chiesa and Lesley Cushing, the co-owners of Brazil Eco Journeys, who are the only LGBT tour operators in Southern Brazil. Although it was my second visit to this wonderful, natural paradise island they managed to show me places and attractions that I had not discovered before. They have lived in Florianopolis---affectionately known by locals as Floripa--- for seven years, their company has been assisting LGBT visitors since they arrived. Their knowledge of the island and beyond is second to none. So whether you are visiting for the first time or returning for more of the beaches, sun and fun, be sure to contact them before you leave home for an assurance of the perfect island gay vacation.

The Gay Beach

Traveling around the island we visited several beaches and villages from the north end to the southern tip reminding me of the diversity on this small island with options for surfing or swimming and relaxing. We spent time at the sand dunes of Mocambique Beach, the International Jurere Beach and village, the Centro Historic Old Town, and my personal favourite Pantano do Sul Beach. We also visited the old Fort of Sao Jose on Ponta Grossa which was built in 1740 and provides great views of the island, the beaches, and the ocean. These are only a few of the highlights and in just five days we managed to traverse the entire island several times with different stops each day. That is one of the pleasures on an island which is 54 km long and 18km wide at its largest point---everything is easily accessible with only a short distance to travel. With 42 diverse beaches, fresh water lagoons, mountains, and more, Floripa is the ideal place for an outdoor adventure with nature.

Naturally this vacation paradise offers a wide variety of restaurants from gourmet dining, to oyster shacks on the beach and everything in between. One of the most popular culinary options is the Brazilian favorite of “Buffet By The Kilo” where you fill your plate and pay for the meal by its weight. There are numerous restaurants with ocean views and, of course, fresh seafood is the main highlight on almost every menu featuring the Catch of the Day.

Catch of the Day at Barra de Lagoa

If you happen to find yourself in the quaint fisherman's village of Barra de Lagoa then a visit to Gabbiani Restaurant is a must. This is one of the historic places in the small township and it began as a restaurant in 1952 and has remained in the same family for three generations. The current owners Rafael and Edson Coelho proudly display black and white photos of the community and the restaurant as it was back in the days when their grandfather started the business. Recently they have remodeled and decorated the building creating their own menu of local specialties. This is a very gay-friendly establishment with great food, attentive service, and a perfect location overlooking the beach. The Coelhos are always there to assist with menu selections or drink specialties. Be sure to ask for one of their different blends of Cachaca which is recommended by fishermen as the traditional drink before eating shellfish and is one of the ingredients for the popular Brazilian Caipirinhas. They will even share with you the secret way of drinking this strong liquor by itself.

Gabbiani Restaurant at Barra de Lagoa

Any visit to Floripa is bound to be a memorable vacation but Brazil Eco Journeys will ensure that you receive a true gay-friendly welcome from accommodations---like the Natur Campeche Pousada--- to restaurants and of course where to find the gay beach. It is almost certain that many of these travelers are from the global gay and lesbian community. The capital city of Buenos Aires is the number one popular destination in Argentina and recently it has been dubbed the new “gay mecca” of South America. So it seems appropriate that the FIRST Pink Point LGBT Information Centre in South America opened its doors in Buenos Aires during September 2010. Following hot on the heels of Argentina being the FIRST country on the continent to legalize same-sex marriages nationally, the timing of this launch could not be more appropriate. Argentina is truly joining the ranks as one of the most gay-friendly countries in the world.

Modeled after the successful Pink Point Amsterdam, which began during the Gay Games in 1998---since then has been expanded into Barcelona and London---Pink Point Buenos Aires is a convenient ground floor store-front location in the heart of downtown near the intersection of the renowned Florida and Lavalle pedestrian streets. Initially it will be open daily at the Galeria Luxor, Lavalle 669, from 10:00 to 20:00 HRS (Sundays 16:00 to 20:00HRS) and staffed by multi-lingual employees.

Erik Hovenga Diaz

“We wanted to bring together all the gay and gay-friendly businesses in Buenos Aires under one roof and provide a venue with information about the city's LGBT social life,” says Erik Hovenga Diaz, Director of The Royal Family and main instigator of the Pink Point Buenos Aires. “Visitors will be able to pick-up brochures, gay maps, ask questions, and learn about the vibrant Buenos Aires gay community,” continues Hovenga Diaz. They will also be able to book real gay tours of the city and surrounding attractions hosted by knowledgeable local gay residents, join special Pink Point excursions, learn about all of Argentina, and purchase appropriate gay souvenirs or tickets to shows. Future plans include an art gallery focusing on the works of local LGBT artists. The information center will also be hetero-friendly and inclusive in the information provided.

Pink Point Buenos Aires is a member of the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association ensuring that all visitors to the center are connected to the larger global family of LGBT travel specialists.

All of these information services are offered FREE to the tourists and all the hand-out brochures, maps, etc., are provided by the local businesses and tourism agencies. There is also an extensive website providing a great deal of information for tourists to use for research prior to leaving their home town. This could well be the most extensive and comprehensive LGBT information source in Argentina and it is anticipated that additional gay and gay-friendly businesses throughout South America will want to be represented at the center in the future.

Luxor Galeria

In a city with 13 million residents there is a thriving LGBT community, but it is not always easy to find your way around Buenos Aires when you are an international visitor---now the Pink Point center will make this task a little easier. No gay visit to Buenos Aires will be complete without stopping at the Pink Point center upon arrival in the city to ensure that you learn everything that this gay mecca has to offer for the complete LGBT experience in Buenos Aires and beyond.

For More Information Visit: www.pinkpointbuenosaires.com

The Rainbow Tour of the Seven Lakes Road from Bariloche, Argentinahttps://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/the-rainbow-tour-of-the-seven2010-07-19T10:44:35.000Z2010-07-19T10:44:35.000ZRoy Healehttps://tripatini.com/members/RoyHeale

By Roy Heale

One of the most beautiful journeys by car in Argentina is the Seven Lakes' road. Starting in San Carlos de Bariloche the road connects to Villa La Angostura and San Martin de Los Andes for a full day excursion. Along the route are the seven lakes: Machónico, Falkner---where there is a 20meter waterfall---Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Nahuel Huapi. Plus at the end of the journey the eighth lake is Lacar where San Martin de los Andes is situated on the shore. The road also traverses three national parks: Lanín, Arrayanes, and Nahuel Huapi. This is truly a scenic journey full of wonderful photo opportunities and memories that make for a perfect journey. It is almost 200kms from Bariloche to San Martin de Los Andes---40 of which are across a gravel road--- and the entire journey is surrounded by spectacular mountain vistas, lakes, unspoiled forests, and parks.

During my visit to Argentina's Lake District my host and tour guide Cristian Signorelli from Bariloche Gay Travel made certain that I experienced this distinctive adventure before I left the region. We met early at my hotel for breakfast and then headed out in our car for a day full of activities. It is possible to enjoy this one day excursion on a tour bus, but I recommend a private guide in order to move at your own pace, stopping to enjoy everything this magnificent day trip has to offer.

It was a slightly cloudy and rainy start to the day but that could not daunt my excitement.

I new this was going to be a mystical gay day when at the start of our journey we were greeted by a dramatic rainbow just as we were leaving San Carlos de Bariloche. A sight that always surpasses the rain or clouds, especially when one can almost here Judy Garland's voice singing those inspiring, familiar words.

The first stop was at the quaint small town of Villa La Angostura situated on the northern shore of Lake Nahuel. This is a year-round destination for fishing, hiking, mountain biking, camping, sailing kayaking, and more including skiing during July, August, and September. The small town site is full of shops, restaurants, and parks with a resident population of about 12,000 people. As we strolled around the village and along the shoreline of the lake we were once again greeted by a rainbow stretching from a mountain peak to the lake. I began to wonder how Cristian organized and planned his gay tours!

After a short refreshing visit around the town and the traditional sharing of mate we were back in the car and on the road to San Martin De Los Andes. On this section of the journey the road winds its way though mountain peaks, alongside the lake shores, though small settlements, forests, and open valleys. Wild flowers and berries adorn the embankments, waterfalls appear by surprise accompanied by small creeks and rivulets. Throughout the journey it is constantly reassuring how this wonderful countryside has been unspoiled by any kind of major commercial development.

We arrived in San Martin de Los Andes just in time for a parilla lunch of beef, salad, and patatas fritas accompanied by a good Malbec. This is another quaint Andean town with year-round tourism and outdoor activities for all to enjoy.

For our return journey we headed back via the highway through the more desert-like region of the Andes Mountains where lakes are not commonplace and the vegetation is more arid. However, Cristian told me if we were lucky there might be a sighting of the region's indigenous bird of prey---the Condor with its three meter wingspan---cruising the wind currents high above.

Sure enough, after about one hour of driving in the afternoon sunshine, Cristian spotted a Condor in the sky and stopped the car for me to take a picture. By the time we were both out of the car, and to our amazement, we were surrounded by what seemed like at least one hundred Condors hovering above. Both of us were completely mesmerized by the sight and they seemed curious about us for several minutes. Then as quickly as they appeared they vanished again. As a local resident Cristian was astounded and impressed upon me that most people were lucky to see just one Condor. He had never before seen or even heard of an entire flock of them traveling together. In fact many people search the skies and never even see one lone Condor. It is important to note that Condors usually travel alone or in pairs making this a very rare sight to behold.

By the time we arrived back in Bariloche I had spent yet another unforgettable and very gay day in the spectacular Argentina Lake District which was full of memories to last a lifetime.

After an incredible week in the Lake District my observations rate this as a wonderful gay-friendly playground and the perfect place for that long-awaited gay honeymoon! Cristian Signorelli of Bariloche Gay Travel will plan your visit so that your memories will be deserving of how long you may have waited for your wedding.

Whether you want to go skiing in the winter, sit on the beach during the summer, or climb a mountain peak, this region has everything for the perfect gay getaway.

For More Information Visit: www.barilochegaytravel.com

For More Travel Stories By Roy Heale Visit: www.royheale.blogspot.com

Lanzarote Beaches (central)https://tripatini.com/profiles/blogs/lanzarote-beaches-central2010-03-05T08:08:19.000Z2010-03-05T08:08:19.000ZGay Lanzarotehttps://tripatini.com/members/GayLanzarote

The Lanzarote Gay Guide to Beaches in the Centre of the island……..

Costa Teguise

The resort of Costa Teguise has a selection of golden sandy beaches, Playa Las Cucharas is the biggest and popular with windsurfers, Playa del Jablillo is sheltered and Playa Bastian has zocos and palm trees. if you want to get away from the orange and blue umbrellas and rows of sunbeds head for the quieter beaches at either end of the resort - Playa Los Charcos or Playa del Ancla.

No gay or nudist beaches.

Famara

The beach at Famara is impressive, it stretches for miles so you’re always guaranteed to find a quiet spot no matter the amount of surfing schools holding training camps there.
