Most Popular Tourist Site in India

The Taj Mahal, right? Nope, not even close when you take India's domestic tourists into account. The tourism ministry reports that Andhra Pradesh, in the south, is now the most visited destination in the country, with 155.8 million domestic tourists in 2010. Why Andhra Pradesh? The temples at Tirumala and Tirupati.

Have you been there? What were your impressions?

    Kerala Houseboaters
The Kettuvallam (houseboats in Kerala) was a large floating structure with high loading carrying capacity was a part of Kerala's culture and heritage over the past years. houseboats / Kettuvallam of Kerala could sail harnessing wild energy. A journey through the lagoon is interesting, passing through sleepy villages, busy boat jetties and vibrant celebrations. The boat glides across the shimmering blue waters with gorgeous green and fringed edges. The small cargo boats called Kettuvalloms are frequently used in the waterways for the above purpose. "Kettu" literally means to tie up and "Vallom" means " boats". The boats played a major role in the economic development of ancient Kerala, moving cargo and men from the very nook and corner of otherwise unreachable area, cutting across the length and breadth of the land

Cruising along the backwaters of Kerala will be an unforgettable experience in your life time. Meandering streams, chirpy birds, murmuring forests, and the slender breeze of god’s own country makes you feel the heaven is here. Above all, spending a night in the lap of nature inhaling the serene environment will calm your body and soul makes your journey worthwhile.

  • Dear Mr.Ed Wetschler,

Yes agree with you on the statics of incoming tourist to Tirumala and Tirupati. I have been there couple of times.. On an Average 1.5 to 2 Lac tourist vist per day.

  • Yes , Tirumala  and Tirupati now are  most popular destination in India .

  • It is a semantic problem. The Ministry collects data which does not separate tourists from regular worshippers. Both these temples are functioning places of worship, and have as such no intrinsic architectural marvel. The temple complex is big, the crowds are bigger and denser than Indy500 :)

Just like Taj Mahal is a functioning Mausoleum, closed on Fridays to all except the worshippers and believers.
