Travel and Words, the highly regarded Pacific Northwest conference that connects travel writers with destination specialists, announced today that early bird registration of $99 will continue through March 31. With the publicity resulting from an article in the March/April issue of Writer's Digest naming Travel & Words as a recommended conference for travel writers, chairperson Myrna Oakley is extending the discounted price to give more writers access to the conference at an excellent value. The $99 fee represents a 20% savings from the fee listed in Writer's Digest, and a nearly 35% savings from the "at the door" price of $145.

Travel & Words will be held May 1-2, 2011, at Willows Lodge, a sustainable boutique hotel located near Seattle in Woodinville, Washington. The event theme is Sustainable + Green + Responsible Travel and Tourism, offering an opportunity for freelance writers, bloggers and journalists to explore these key trends in travel in the Northwest and throughout the world.

Travel & Words provides a way for new and experienced travel writers to meet, network, and share resources and story ideas with regional travel and tourism organizations, industry professionals, editors and publishers, and other writers,” said Myrna Oakley. “The feedback we get each year from attendees is that our conference provides value in both connections and publishing results.”

Ten visitor bureaus and destination marketing organizations from throughout the Pacific Northwest are confirmed as exhibitors. Panels of freelance writers, travel bloggers, publishers, and magazine and book editors will offer guidance on pitching articles and building a freelance writing business.

The conference also will follow green meeting practices by reducing paper use and encouraging attendees to arrive by train, shuttle or car-share.

Registration includes conference materials, writers' resource table, authors' book table, Northwest wineries wine tasting, access to presenters and exhibitors, and refreshments and meals. Willows Lodge is offering a special room rate to attendees. For more information, visit: http://www.travelwritersconference.com/

    • That is great to know, Nicole. Thank you for posting your link. In fact, since SE Alaska is so close by air to the conference, writers and tourism pros from Alaska are very welcome to register and attend Travel & Words Spring '11 in Woodinville, WA. Willows Lodge is offering an exceptionally good media rate for attendees who book a room prior to 4/15. And the early registration value of $99 for the conference is in effect until 3/31. Writers will connect with many WA and OR destinations and leave with several stories just waiting to be written and published. Welcome Alaskans!
